The Low Down On Handmade Nation
Movie Premiere, House Tours & Book Reviews

020509-handmadenation.jpg Having been involved with the handmade underground (and now limelight) movement for many years, it's exciting to see the hard work of first time film maker and crafter, Faythe Levine be showcased on the big screen. Tonight in Milwaukee and next week in New York, The Handmade Nation documentary that highlights the new wave of craft in America, is finally making it's big debut. Find out more about the book (that she co-wrote with Cortney Heimerl), see the full movie trailer and get a peek inside the homes of Faith and Cortney after the jump.

Check out the trailer for the Handmade Nation movie if you haven't yet seen it!

You can also sneak a peek at the stop motion sequence that was done for the opening of the film.

020509-handmade.jpg If you are in the Milwaukee area, don't miss the premiere of this indie craft documentary tonight, Feb 5th at the Landmark Oriental Theatre (2230 N. Farewell Ave) at 7pm. The documentary also premieres next week in NYC at the Museum of Arts and Design (2 Columbus Circle) on Feb 12 at 6:30pm. You can check out the Handmade Nation blog for more information on forthcoming dates!

020509-handmadenation2.jpg The Handmade Nation book was released back in September to select crafting audiences and in November for the rest of the world. You can pick up a copy at many independent art/craft stores, on Amazon, and we recently spotted it at Urban Outfitters.

020509-handmadenation4.jpg Yesterday Design*Sponge featured tours of both Faythe Levine and Cortney Heimerl's homes. Plus, there's an extensive interview with the two of them answering questions about the uprising craft movement and their involvement and passion for it. It's well worth the read!

As a former MKE native and getting the pleasure to assist Faythe on occasion, it is wonderful to see the more of the Midwest get their "represent!" in other than Chicago...No offense Chicago...but it isnt the only great city on the lake :)
