Curbside Junking: We're Making This Desk Into....

102908-trash.jpg While walking down an alleyway today we came across this mid-century desk... minus the drawers. Always being one to stop and help out a poor abandoned furniture item, there are already plans for it. Click through the jump to see our trash to treasure solution for this desk on it's last legs (well only legs, but you get the point).

Although we already have a desk and an entertainment center both, we are dragging this find home for a Christmas present.
What's that you say? "You give desks without drawers as Christmas presents?!"
And to that we say, "Why not?!"

This desk will receive a refinishing and have thin birch plywood bottoms added to each side of the desk where the drawers should be.
With the addition of holes drilled in the back and the bottom (for air flow) we think it would make a great entertainment center. The drawers will now be able to be used to hold the cable box and the dvd player and either a cute accessory or maybe a basket to hold dvd's in. Everyone needs somewhere to put their Netflix right?
An ottoman can slide in where a chair would normally go and be pulled out for additional seating when company is over.

So next time you see a lifeless piece of furniture, stop and look at it in a new light and maybe it could be your next makeover addition to your home.

a great idea- this post could be improved by waiting until you had photos of your finished job though!

Man, I wish I had the luck to just stumble upon random pieces of abandoned mid-century furniture.

Love the ottoman-fitting-snugly-inside idea!

Everything trash thing I find is 1970s particle board, most of which a cat has peed on at one time or another. I need to find the "good trash" neighborhood!
