We like to keep some extra seating in our home for those times when guests drop by. It helps to create a casual, welcoming vibe in the home. One idea: use ottomans in changing configurations. By day they're side tables and footstools, but during an evening cocktail party they're a place to sit and sip your drink. (Image via The Rug Company.) I can store 4 leather folding chairs under my sofa. perfect for dinner parties-- no one feels like the last-minute guest stuck on a too-short ottoman at the end of the table.

Good suggestions. I would add: have a cocktail ottoman, that would serve for seating in a pinch. There are some great ones at Crate 'n Barrel, WS Home, Gumps...

I have a danish modern slatted teak bench that is used as a coffee-table/extra seating bench... (but mostly a depository for stacks of books) but is my favorite piece of furniture precisely for its utilitarian, multi-functional purpose.
Another thing that people like to sit on, in my apartment is a storage box (a wooden box, nothing special, where I keep some residual electronics/media)... which always puzzles me.

Oh!!! I thought I was the only one looking for a vintage chesterfield like the one in the 1st picture! I've been looking everywhere, can't find a good one for a reasonable price. Good luck Kristian - hope you've succeeded where I haven't!

Does anyone know the name/designer/style/manufacturer/etc. of the printed sofa in the picture with the Eames stools? It looks too familiar, yet I can't seem to remember myself. I do love that print!
