Bekväm Step Stool

One of our recent IKEA purchases was this little step stool, which we're using in the kitchen to reach our high cabinets. Originally we thought we'd paint it, but once we assembled it we really liked the striated wood pattern. Best of all, the price can't be beat...

For just $15, you get a solid wood step stool that's very sturdy. For more information, click here. If you're looking for a folding model to fit into a narrow space, see this post.

I love my Bekvam! Ours is unpainted as well, but I do assume that at some point it will need to be painted as it will become stained with repeated use (especially as we use it in our garage for home repair projects that are quite dirty). I think structurally it will stand up great for years to come, and it fits perfectly in the small corner of our kitchen that wasn't being used.

I had one.
It was very painful: the sharp corners and the weight of it makes it hard to miss your toes, or knees, shin, etc. I had it in our kitchen for the same purpose (access tall cabinets) and anytime i turn around, there it was and then I'd trip or bang a body part or two on it.

Maybe it's just me.

We use ours in lieu of a bedside table in the guest room. The cheapest solution and pretty fun. Besides, then we can pull it out to use when we need a step stool. ;-)

kls987 - It WILL last for years to come. We're also in love with ours, which has so far had the following incarnations: kitchen stool, nightstand (at which point it was painted glossy black - trés chic), entryway shoe putting on/removal bench & balcony drink table. We'll see what we come up with next for the little guy.

LOVE my Bekvam. It's in use everyday as a chair, coffee table, art table, stunt prop for my son's cars, etc... Oh, and a stepstool. It's sturdy but light enough that he can easily push it around so that he can reach counters and higher shelves, and the perfect height for him to help me cook. I will be painting mine glossy white this weekend, since I already spilled paint on it.

I love mine too, it fits perfectly in my teeny tiny foyer. After a long day I crave the sight of it and the big coat hook above it, just begging me to strip off my shoes, jacket, bag and woes of the day. Ideal little perch really but I will say it took a little elbow grease to put together.

We have 3 Bekvam stools around the house. One in the kitchen which I sit at daily, another for plants in a sunny window. Another one in a walk in closet to reach higher shelves. We also have 2 in the attic in the boxes because they tend to "disappear" when family arrives.

The Bekvam stool is a brilliant design and totally affordable. I am an Ikea queen and it is one of their best products.

I'd at least oil the thing to enhance the natural color and prevent the wood from drying out and cracking.

I bought one for the kitchen several years ago and stained it in one of the darker options available at Ikea. I think it looks great (even though I could have done a better job of applying the stain). My only problem is that I wish that it was a bit higher.

i love it. my boyfriend said it was a pain to assemble, but he loves it as well. Also, this stool holds up.

We bought one to use in the bathroom so our daughter could reach the sink and see in the mirror.

We painted ours with oil based enamel before we assembled it (using glue to reinforce it.) It's been going strong and still looks great after 6 years!

This is one piece of ikea furnititure that is well made. I use it a lot during home renovations when I just need a step and a ladder would be too much.
