Last week we looked at the Saarinen tulip table and the many ways it's been used in modern homes. Today, we're examining another classic in context: the Nelson platform bench. We've seen it used in living rooms (usually as a coffee table), bedrooms (at or near the foot of the bed), hallways, and more...

If you stack them on top of each other they make bookshelves too.

I've seen them used as a headboard, too.

My school has them peppered down every hallway. They're so wonderful.

I adore this bench. Have for a long, long time. I've been thinking about getting one for my Los Feliz studio as it would make an amazing coffee table, but also provide overflow seating at cocktail parties... I'm in love the overall design. It's so iconic! Also for my living room I finally picked up a Case Study Fiberglass Rocker (in Walnut and Ocean--Modernica) so seeing the second photo further drove the point home as to how well these two icons play off one another in a streamlined space...

The Nelson bench is truly classic. I love it, too. I'm torn between getting a knock-off and saving up for the real thing. Always a struggle!
