Not sure how we lived without a step-stool several years ago (okay, we balanced precariously on chairs to reach stuff), the step stool is a must-have for all homes. A small, collapsible one reigns on top, as it can be folded up and put tightly away even if you don't have a big ol' storage closet. Target has some good options...

I love my Ikea Bekvan stepstool. At $14.99, you can't beat the price, either. It also comes fully assembled, unlike a lot of their furniture. We've had it for about a year and it shows no signs of wear or age.

Well, I had to build my IKEA Bekvam, but I like it very much anyway. I use it as a bedside table.

i have a larger rubbermaid one from target and i love it. we have highish ceilings and shelves that go up pretty high in the closet, so it's great for my wife who is 5'2", Heck i'm 6'2" and i still use it to get to the top storage shelves.
A little one is great, but i recommend getting one as large as your space allows you to store it, you can always stand lower on a tall one, but if you need to go higher then the short one you bought, once again you're out of luck and balancing on a table or something.

I have a large two-step one from Target and it was only $14.99, regular price! This was a no-brainer.

Love mine. Have been using the one I got a Williams Sonoma since 1995. An old house mate tried to move out with it in 2000, and it just about came down to a fist fight. I had to find an old holiday party photo (from a prior residence) with the stool in the background to "proove" it was mine. sheesh!

I love my step stool. I named it Raul. As in "Ra-ool the step stool". Just a run of the mill thing from the hardware store, but I can't live without him.

I have found the best made step stools on the market are Leifheit. I cannot recommend them enough. We use ours in a commercial environment so it gets a lot of use but has lasted for years while others did not.
