5 Ways to Use a Spare Chair

6-3-09chair.jpg

Spare chairs can be cheap to come by, and they're helpful when you need extra seating for a dinner party. The only problem is figuring out what to do with them when they're not being put to use...

Here are a few ideas:
1 Use an extra chair as a stand-in for a bedside table.
2 In an entryway, a spare chair can catch your bag.
3 In a guest room, a chair can hold blankets, pillows, or towels.
4 Give a potted plant some height, or transform the chair itself into a planter.
5 If you're lacking shelf space, stack your extra novels on a side chair.

My spare chair has been usurped by the cat - an addition to her many lairs.

I have an antique french chair that I use instead of a bedside table.

I am always looking for places to stash chairs and unique ways to use them, as I am a bit addicted to collecting random chairs!

If you have a wide closet, you might be able to store some chairs in there, facing forward. You can still put your shoes on the floor, and folded sweaters and such on the seat. Your clothes hang on the rod above the chair.

Why not put it in a corner of the bedroom or in the hallway - and sit on it while putting on/removing your socks/shoes?

How about putting it in the kitchen - so someone could sit on it while watching you cook dinner?

Or you could put it in a corner of the office - so someone can sit on it & talk to you while you're working?

This is timely since i just bought more chairs, and one of the ones we were using for the table is superfluous. It's not very comfy, so it's been bumped. I think it can go live in the hall now (it's in the living room atm, but it seems to collect clutter).

I've got two spare bar stools that were a gift from my dad, so I can't get rid of them - besides, I love them! But our current place doesn't have a bar. So they're acting as coffee tables and food stands whenever we have drinks and nibbles. They work very well! They'd be great as a plant stand, too, I think.

I can think of many times when a chair would make a handy laptop stand ~ not only while in use, but for charging as well.

I have a pretty but decrepit ice cream style chair holding my printer. And one in my closet for shoe removal and tossing stuff.
