Design Classic: Mah Jong Sofa by Hans Hopfer

2008-02-18-mahjong.jpg Hippie chic. Designed nearly 40 years ago, it is consistently made new as Roche Bobois refreshes the upholstery fabrics. Over the years the sofa has been covered with colorful choices...

Oh man....I can't help myself.

I LOVE it. I admit is.

It's totally my parents fault: all that pot smoke and patchouli oil of their youth seeped into my genes!

I'm thinking I might just have my mattress upholster like that for fun. It's always a good thing to have nice surprises lurking under the sheets, no?

Does anyone know where the hanging light bulbs are from in the first picture?

Perfect. Reminds me of my hippie childhood with twin bed mattress sofas draped in Indian print bedspreads and afgans. I actually like it. A lot.

They are gorgeous. But VERY low. But if you can afford them, you can probably afford someone to help you in and out of them.

My parents bought a set of these "sofas" in the 70's and they still have them today! If anyone is interested in them, let me know.
