Jake Sofa from Z Gallerie

12-4-08jake1.jpg

In our search for sofas under $1,000, we came across this simple, modern sofa from Z Gallerie. In the last year, we've overcome our bias against the store's name, and we've found some good go-to items there. We wanted to highlight the Jake Sofa for its clean lines and basic construction that would fit in well with a range of living room styles. It's also got a low price tag...

...of $900. Upholstered in a microfiber fabric, the Jake Sofa is available in brown and white. The 88-inch sofa comes with a lifetime warranty for the frame, a 5-year warranty for the springs, and a 1-year warranty for the cushions. For more information, click here.

I was just in Z Gallerie today and most of the furniture looks and feels cheap. Such a shame. Back in the day (circa 1995) they used to make nice, affordable pieces.

It's $1700 but I find the Crate and Barrel Steele sofa to be a much better investment in terms of refined look, fabric durability, and overall construction.

Heh. I'm actually going to Z Gallerie tomorrow to shop for sofas. There are a few that I want to try out.

Being on a strict budget sucks. $1700 isn't exactly an option.

Go sit on this and tell me if it is even worth $1000. I have also found Crate and Barrel to be a much better bargain if you keep furniture for the long haul.

Aloof, there are great sofas in the $1000 price range from retailers like Room & Board and Crate & Barrel that are significantly better quality than anything at Z Gallery. If you're really tight, you're better off hunting on craigslist for an old quality sofa for uner $200 and then getting it re-upholstered for $500.

The sofa is too boxy. Now if it was retro boxy that may be a different story. It is just a bit bland.

Thanks for the comments. I went to West Elm this weekend and found a great sofa (88" Goodwin in mocha) for $1k.

Thanks for steering me away from the Gallerie of Zee.
