apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

New Picks from CB2 2008: Alchemy Stool, Hippie Armchair in White, and More...

In our first peek at CB2's new items for 2008, we saw a few things we liked...particularly in the "work" section of the catalog. CB2's never been super cutting edge, but when they stick to their strengths (like affordable basics and small-scale apartment furnishings) they do pretty well. Our favorite is the Alchemy Stool ($129). Love the slab of dark wood paired with pewter-plated legs, plus it works as a stool or a side table. We've also liked the Hippie Armchair for a while now, and we're glad to finally see it available in white ($229). The pharmacy-style Script Desk Lamp ($59.95) is cool...we dig the lacquer finish.

We're a little disappointed in the muted colors appearing across the board, but furniture (like fashion) seems to be trending back towards basic neutrals, at least in the mainstream stores. One exception is the floral Marcel Sofa ($1,099), which combines bold pattern with pops of orange (also available in granite). The Surf Office Chair ($199) is a more budget-friendly take on the classic Eames Management Chair. Good-looking, affordable task chairs are hard to come by, so we're happy to see one we like.

Our overall take? A little boring, but good basic pieces for 2008. Tell us your hits and misses from CB2 2008.

The alchemy stool grabbed me right away too - it's very striking. Anyone seen it in person?

That stool is gorgeous, now only if they made one as a dining table.
