Ottoman Sleeper

042707ottoman1.JPG

This take on the traditional sleeper sofa is actually new to us: The double ottoman that converts into a bed. We were barely able to navigate the site where we found this (McLeary's Furniture), but did find a series of "single" ottoman sleepers as well:

Anyone own one of these??

I'd be interested to see how comfortable these are -- because they look like they're a step down from a futon, comfort-wise.

But isn't that the idea? ;-> You'd this for "emergency" type of sleepovers if you have no guest room, and it'd guarantee that your sleepover won't over-stay their welcome. LOL

Boomer, very good point - definitely don't want guests hanging around for too long!

I've been researching these for myself and there's at least a couple of other models out there. Can't speak to the comfort of any though...

Bo Concept (single only):

Lucy Au makes another, more cushy-looking model:

Interversion (a Montreal store) carries this one:

I don't know, I think sticking an aerobed type thing in an ottoman with a storage compartment might be better.

I've slept on the LucyAu version, at a friend's Toronto home, and it was Really Comfortable. I posted a few months ago on AT asking if anyone knew of U.S.-based options for them but only found the traditional metal foldouts. It's really important to find one with the wood slat back (which the Lucy Au has instead of the traditional metal folding frame found in most foldout beds) that makes all the difference in terms of comfort and I thought it beat an aerobed for comfort and convenience (if not price).

I have these on my dream list, I plan to replace two twin guest beds with the double ottomans (it's just a better use of space for infrequent guests), but now I'm looking for just the foldout bed mechanism (with the wood slat back) so I can have them custom made locally. So far I've had no luck finding a resource for the foldout mechanism, alone, with the wood slat back (similar support to a lot of the IKEA beds... it provides better support).

Rucy,
Are you west coast US? There's a store in Vancouver, Yaletown Sofa, that carries/distributes Lucy Au. I seem to remember someone asking on AT:SF a little while back.

Thanks Jankdc & Michelle, that was probably me asking on AT:SF, I'm in San Francisco. I have called the local companies, that list with the AU website, but sadly none of them even show the ottoman bed in their AU catalogs for U.S. orders. One is researching it with AU, and will get back to me, but admitted that if it's not in their catalog I'd probably have to order it directly or through a Canadian supplier and the prices, with shipping, were quite high (at that rate I though I might as well find the wood-slat-foldout-bed mechanism and have versions custom made locally using my own fabric choice).

Thanks!
