apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Ralph Lauren Noble Estate Collection

012208settee.jpgNew from Ralph Lauren Home: The Noble Estate collection. While most discussion of Ralph Lauren on Apartment Therapy has been linked to paint colors, (check out all the references to R.L. paint here), we wanted to dig into the fancy furnishings for a change. Costly and lush...what do you think of this line?

You can get better pieces cheaper at ANY decent auction house.

I got to visit the showroom in North Carolina last year and was in love with everything...but this stuff isn't doing it for me.

I'm not a big fan of Lauren. But some of the pieces in this line could make a positive contribution to the right sort of interior.

I think its all very hot. I do agree that you could source your own pieces though at much lower price.

I think that this line, like most RL merchandise is a little overpriced, over-decorated and most of all, pretentious. I love the Polo store, but it's stuck in its own sense of being so good. Love RL Home, but it tries so hard by hiking up the prices to the point where, "it must be" high end because of the price tag. As much as I respect their branding, their persistence on the yesteryear nowadays feels like a lack of re-invention instead of an iconic style. RL is becoming a cliche of itself.

The RL pieces are nice and well made by reputable manufacturers, but their prices are astronomical. The purchaser is paying a LOT of money for his name. Before I would ever consider buying an RL piece without a major sale discount, I'd go to a Baker, Henredon, Kindel, or other showroom or retailers and save money by ordering a similar piece there.

That's it, I'm going to keep my eyes open for a similar console on Craigslist, buy it for a song, and paint it to match that $9k model above. Then I shall carelessly leave a picture of the Ralph Lauren (and its price) on top. Oh la la! Tres cher!
