Our friend is moving in with his girlfriend, and his one request is to have a recliner chair in the apartment. We're trying to help her out by finding some good-looking modern recliners. She wants to avoid overstuffed velour or stained hand-me-downs. Here's what we came up with (more photos and links below):
Left to Right, Top to Bottom:
• Tracy Recliner from Crate and Barrel, $899
• Flight Recliner from Design Within Reach, $2,100
• Harper Recliner from Room and Board, $1,100
• Verona Recliner from Chiasso, $1,198
• Le Corbusier LC4 from Design Within Reach, $2,585

• Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman from Room and Board, $3,599
• Dawson Recliner from Room and Board, $1,199
• Bjork Reclining Chair from Spacify, $1,620
• Tulip Chair and Ottoman from Mezzanine, price not listed
• Chicago Recliner from Modern Office, $999
• Danish Modern Recliner on ebay, $420
• Liza Reclining Chair from All Modern, $1,399
• Hipster Recliner from 2BMod, $745
Although a lot of these are above and beyond her budget, we wanted to add some of our favorite Mid-C loungers to the mix. We've also found that searching on ebay and vintage stores turns up some good finds from the heyday of recliner chairs.
Any suggestions for our friend?
I love real, comfy recliners, but we don't have space for one right now. I like the looks of the Flight Recliner by DWR, but couldn't handle the price tag... Don't stone me, but I actually like some of the more updated things by La-Z-Boy, like this: http://www.la-z-boy.com/furniture/product.aspx?pid=51

the hipster actually has very clean lines and the price seems really reasonable to me, when you consider what you'd get for the same price at a chain store like c&b...

I am looking for something similar myself, a recliner that doesn't look too much like one. If you have JC Penney near you, check out the Chameleon II recliner. It's not on the website for some reason, but I did see it at the furniture gallery. It's priced at $999 but it was recently on sale for $499 (what a deal!) The best part is there are a ton of fabric swatches available so you can customize the color and fabric for no extra cost.

Don't forget the Ektorp Muren for $300.

Looks very comfy recliner chairs. I like the first 5 set. You can use it anywhere you like because of the casual design.
