Chair Socks: Give Your Furniture Some Fashion

062309-chairsocks.jpg This morning we spotted these funny little socks... for your chairs. Some part of us is thinking how silly they are, while the other part is wondering, why we didn't think this up ourselves. There's been countless times we've hit up auctions or tag sales and come across rogue chairs which are in great condition, except for the feet. So when you don't want to refinish, just dress them up! Details after the jump...

Chris&Ruby are behind the chair sock idea, and although we can't wait for their webstore to open, we can't help but think about lone, crazy thrift store socks just waiting for some adjusting. Or how about after doing your laundry when you only have 1 sock and can't find its mate? The diy possibilities are more than obvious.

Aside from being fashionable, they would also protect your floors and look funky while doing it. Would you ever use chair socks? Just saying the phrase makes us giggle!

Hilarious! I do worry about the comfort of my furniture when I can't bear to turn up the thermostat...

what a dumb idea. It's like that wearable blanket, people use it, but it is dumb. Sorry - I will never buy this even if the entire continent had them in their living rooms.

This can be a temporary solution for my hardwood floors until I decide on a rug. I can old socks though.

Love it - can't wait to banish those tacky felt circles and instead rescue castoff socks and give them new life!

PS: Love silly pieces like these - they speak to a sense of humor and life in the space!

Definitely adorable, but I wouldn't do it only because it doesn't fit my decor. Maybe in my daughter's room...?

I think I will put those old-lady ankle pantyhose on my chairs and see if anyone notices.

Freakin' adorable, and probably good for wood floors. Would make moving chairs quiet and scratch-free.

I see enough of those damn socks on the ubiquitous hipsters. Betcha Urban Outfitters will carry these soon, if not already!

Fun! This seems like an art installation idea gone commercial, reminds me of the movement to knit and crochet around everything from furniture to trees to lamp posts.

How about little roller skates on furniture instead of casters? Or cozies shaped like winter coats for your kitchen appliances? The possibilities for furniture fashion are endless!

heather77 - LOL! Will you have chair cushions made out of dyed muslin to go with the old lady stockings? So you can see them slouching down below the hemline of the chairs 'skirt'?

Who comes up with these hairbrained ideas? Ridiculous

Great idea. The felt pads are always coming off scratching up my poor hardwood floor. Too bad I can't use one of my cast off socks. Socks are designed for human feet not straight up and down furniture legs.

Proof that even something completely silly can be chic. I'd love to see the pink ones on the legs of some white Windsor-style counter-height stools, protecting the bleached oak floors of a very girly, very pristine modern country cottage space.

heather77 - haha! will they have artfully ruched ankle baggyness?
Seriously though (can one be serious about chair socks?) I currently rent and have made blanket versions of these as my old metal legged vinyl covered office chairs, which I loves and would never forsake - (least ways not yet my darlings), were threatening to eat to eat the wooden floor. So go ahead and scoff, my landlord is thanking me without knowing it.

I would use them. I have pretty hardwood floors and the dog likes to try and chew off the felt pads of my chair legs. Nothing else... just the felt pads. Or the felt pads come off on their own and then the dog eats it and that's always an adventure.

I think you could use people socks and sew the bottom for a chair sock right above the heel line on the people sock. It's not like they have to go up high. So sew at heal line and then take in on one side until it fits the chair leg. I'm sure one could find some funky socks on sale at any clothing store too.

I've been using the various coloured tennis balls available from Staples (Bureau en Gros here in Montreal). They're cute and work well, but I really like the socks idea - can be substantially classier than tennis balls.
