Very good looking, designed for easy use and it makes you feel safe and smart just by having it around - all good things. A brand new fire extinguisher from Home Hero is coming this fall to Home Depot for around $30. Full photo below the jump...

From the Home Hero site:
"HomeHero'sgreatest ergonomic feature is its simple, single-handed deployment. The accessible style and shape of the canister, and the molded rubber grip and trigger on its handle allow the consumer to deploy the product in comfort and ease, even under the most challenging circumstances."
"Having a fire extinguisher readily available has been statistically proven to reduce fire related fatalities. Research shows that in 94% of cases where a portable extinguisher was used, fires were successfully put out. "
We have a fire extinguisher in our kitchen and have been thinking about a second one as a backup (ours is getting pretty old), so we'll be checking this out.
No word on the Home Depot site on whether the Home Hero is in stores yet, has anyone seen it in person?

Isn't the picture on the right of the smoke and CO2 detector?

Wait, that should have been CO, not CO2!

johnny,
the pic on the right is a top down shot of the extinguisher. the detector is sort of a rounded square shape and looks good too - you can see photos on the home hero site.

I just had occasion to use a fire extinguisher, kinda ugly one too but it worked and now I am gonna go get one of those pretty sleek looking ones!
I like the looks of that HomeHero so much that I think I will mount it as a sort of functional art piece.
Maybe I need two.
Word to the wise, if you need an extinguisher you REALLY need one and being able to grab one in a hurry is what you want.
Buying two regular, ugly , cheap extinguishers and practicing is a really good idea. Makes you more likely to use any extinguisher in the correct way when you need to. Trust me, reading the instructions and fumbling when something is ON FIRE is not nearly as much fun as you would think.
Being able to grab your handy mounted, easy to find extinguisher and knowing how it works well enough to pull the pin the pin while on the run and use it right, that is a whole lot better.
