...besides the bedroom. Dressers are super-versatile pieces that provide a lot of storage, and they don't have to be relegated to clothes-keeping. In the dining room they can store napkins and silverware, in the family room they can store DVDs, and in a hallway they can store linens. Click below for 8 spots to put a dresser.

I stumbled upon this concept years ago when I didn't have room in my bedroom for a fabulous chest of 5 huge drawers I had found on the street 20 years earlier. It is solid wood, simple clean lines and holds tons of stuff. As I was about to deposit it sadly back on the street (this time in Brooklyn) I realized that it fit perfectly in a nitch in my kitchen (where I had nowhere near enough storage. It has been there ever since, nicely painted, and holds pots and pans, baking items, mixing bowls, and lots of linens. I love it.

I bought a 1920's oak dresser 25 years ago, and it's traveled all over the country with me. In our latest apartment, there's no room for a dresser in the bedroom but it does fit in our foyer. It's great to have that storage space, both in the drawers and on the surface.

I've been dragging around the same dresser for the last 20 years. It was given to me, it's incredibly well-made, and it has almost never held any clothes. It's been an office, pantry, entertainment center, room divider, and headboard, LOL
It's not that I LOVE it, (it's actually pretty sad....badly refinished in the 70's). But it's AN INCREDIBLY WELL-MADE DRESSER, and those don't grow on trees.
I finally gave up wishing I could get rid of it, and now I accept it as a fact of my life :-)

I have a huge 6 drawer chest of drawers that has traveled around with me too, and it has been everything but a place to store clothes. I just refinished it (again) and put new hardware on it, and it's now living in in my dining room. Much needed storage space, and a great place to serve buffet style dinners! The best 50 bucks I ever spent.

Design Within Reach? I hope they dont mean more affordable, because I don't know anyone, design fan or not, that can afford (or wants to) to dish out $2,500 for one dresser. Yikes.
That said, the furniture looks great.

oh dressers are the best storage! ...and they take on the look of the room when simple enough- I have an 8 foot retro one i picked up for $50 at a thrift store for my living room... it holds my record player and TV and then another distressed one in my kitchen that i found on the curbside- i store food in it.

it's probable that no one is reading this post anymore, but just in case: WHAT is that houndstooth chair in the sixth picture down? i'm kind of in love with it.
