Inspiration: The Bathroom Bureau

032009bureau.jpgThe small glimpse of this seemingly not-so-small bathroom has a lot going for it: streams of light and healthy plants, crisp white, yellows and greens (love the trim), an upholstered chair (or settee?), and an organized, multi-functional bureau:

We'd hardly call the bureau "perfect for small bathrooms" like the Pottery Barn site does, but we do love the look and idea if space is not a factor: A Smart Technology™ strip provides a plug-in point for hair dryers and curling irons, and three drawers below have cutouts for easy access. 18.5 x 16 x 49" h.

This bathroom bureau is available at Pottery Barn for $599.

I LOVE this, especially with the place for a hair dryer, but SO expensive!

Why with the $600?

I like it, too, but it looks like the mirror isn't the right height. Wouldn't you have to crouch down or stoop over to see yourself in it?

Then you'd be looking right at your double chin! No thanks.

Great for a dorm room--if you have to do make-up in a small space outside the bathroom. But the price will ensure not many college students buy it.

I have this MALM cabinet in my bedroom and absolutely love it, and think it could do the trick in a more spacious bathroom as well:

I love it, but woah $600. I hope Overstock makes a knockoff....

Wow...I like the idea, but it's wildly overpriced. I thought it would be a $100 purchase from Target or some such place. I could even see its going for twice that at a higher end store, but there's no way this is worth $600.

I'm looking for something like this for my small bathroom (minus the mirror). I am in desperate need of storage space. Anyone have lower cost (MUCH LOWER please!) recommendations?

I live in a small house (1150 sf) with 3 kids so the 1 bathroom is in demand. If my daughters can shower and take care of the rest outside of the bathroom, then that's pretty cool. It's got outlets, but they need to be fed, so I guess you need an extension cord? It's not always easy to accommodate that need.

I want one! But $600 makes me think I could do this with a less expensive cart and a hung mirror in the hall. Sorry, PB, your bureau is certainly preferable and more attractive, but money is just disappearing all over the place! These girls will hopefully go to college and that needs to be funded.

Totally unrelated question! But I need help. I have a claw foot tub and have no clue how or where to get a cool shower curtain. Because it has to wrap all the way around I have to buy three curtains at a time!

Anyone have some fabulous ideas? Or sites where I can get good ones. Love the tub, but the shower curtain thing drives me nuts!

I've noticed that with the Pottery Barn "smart" stuff they act like they can tack 25-40% or so extra on to something because it has some outlets. Meanwhile, I could do the same thing with a power strip and double stick tape. The price of their "smart" bedside tables are crazy.

This def. makes me think of the MALM dresser lana_g posted.. except you know oh 3x the price! I have that MALM & I put makeup organizers in the top drawer ($5 each at target x 2) and I love it.. Granted it doesn't have a power strip or any of that, but I am pretty sure that power strip doesn't warrant paying $400 more for it!

The MALM looks like its a little bit bigger though.. So thats something to consider in a small space! I just put mine in my bedroom & it clears out space so the bathroom doesn't necessarily have to be fought over. =)

The Malm piece looks like it would do the trick for much less, and you have more finish options.

i don't have the malm, but the dimensions are pretty similar to pottery barn's...
Width: 15 7/8 "
Depth: 19 1/8 "
Height: 48 3/8 "

PB Teen has a couple of options that feature "smart technology". They don't have quite the same look, but they are the same idea at a lower cost...
