Anyone have any ideas where to get something like this in solid wood rather than veneer? Thanks!

I totally want something like this. I really wish it was real wood because I would love to use this as a china cabinet.

I love the styling, but I suspect the quality isn't so great. Wish there was a CB2 in Seattle so I could find out for myself.

Is there furniture made out of real acacia? This is nice looking, but ditto on the already-expressed ideas about the veneer.

Is acacia a hardwood?

I checked it out at the CB2 in San Francisco, and the quality was not that great. It is the perfect size and has great form, but for $400 I am looking for a piece that will last.

When you find a solid wood piece of cabinetry for $00, PLEASE let us know where.

VENEER IS NOT A BAD WORD.

Jeez.

And btw, I checked it out at CB2, and for the money, you can't beat it.

I was looking to build something recently with solid Acacia... it is hard to find. You might want to go with walnut for a similar look.

Seems like Acacia is the new hip wood veneer.

Any insights on solid wood for not cheap? I'm not hoping for solid at veneer pricing. Thanks again.

Why all the hate against veneer? Veneer does not equal fake, and veneer opens the door to creating patterns with the wood used (book-matching, etc) . The engineered wood underneath is what bothers me, but I still really like the cabinet and think the price is reasonable.

Veneer isn't a bad word - It's the cheap chipboard substrate and poor KD construction that makes it bad.

Yes, Acacia is a tropical hardwood (broadleaf/deciduous) as opposed to a softwood (evergreen).

For those interested in hardwood, within the past year a friend purchased something very similar from pottery barn (size, shape, etc). However, they also paid $2K. It's beautiful though.

And btw, given changes in humidity and temperature, engineered wood is often more structurally sound (and longer lasting) than "actual wood."

Plus, where are all the "greenies" clamoring about wood usage??

It's not a bad piece. It's not top craftsmanship for sure, but it's only $400.

We have been looking at it and are considering buying it - it's perfect for our needs. I emailed an image of it to a millworker that our office works with & he thought it would cost them about $1500 to make something similar.

So it may not be solid hardwoods, but it's kind of a good deal.

I've seen it in person... it feels really cheap. In photographs it looks amazing... that's until you touch it and realize the pulls are made of (thin) plastic.

If you're looking for a placeholder it might fit the bill, but definitely take a look first.

I ended up doing a Room & Board Linear piece instead. Yes... it was like 4x more expensive, but I'd rather buy this piece once vs. both.
