Chair Shelves by Upsetters Architects

Reed Space was designed by Japan-based Upsetters Architects. The project caught our attention with that wall of chairs shelves. The shelves are made of chairs anchored in rows into the wall. The seats of the chairs make up the actual shelves, with the backs and legs acting as support "brackets"...

Right, well, yes, chairs are indeed strong and when mounted to a wall we can see how they'd function as shelves that could support quite a lot of weight. If you stumbled across so many matching chairs this could be fun. What do you think of the cross-purposing? See more from Upsetters here.

What's wrong with shelves? Pointless.

The chairs kinda make a statement, in my eyes. I like em.

In a child's room, it would be cool.

Reminds me of Shaker interiors, where EXTRA chairs are hung on wall pegs to be out of the way for cleaning and so on. It's an ok look for a large public interior, but for a home, not so much -- most of us would prefer the dual use of having functional chairs that we can set things on when needed...
