Coming Soon to Chicago: BoConcept

060908bopic.JPG
060908BoConcept.jpgWe don't know exactly when its doors will open, but we've seen notes in print and online declaring BoConcept is "Coming Soon!" to Chicago (1901 N. Clybourn according to their website). With an old AT:NY debate from 2004 surrounding BoConcept's customer service, we're wondering if the general consensus has changed in the last four years. Any new reviews on BoConcept? Looking forward to its Chicago outpost?

Here's LA's Debate on Bo Concept from earlier this year!

I'm not in Chicago, but from my experiences with the store in Cambridge, MA were all pretty horrible. I imagine that a new store means new employees, which might result in better then average customer service. Here though it's expected to be yelled at over the phone or to regularly witness employees yelling at other customers over the phone when you're actually in the store.

I can't speak for any of the shops in the US, but a BoConcept recently opened near me in Dublin and I've had a wonderful experience with them thus far.

All the staff I've encountered have been extremely patient, helpful and forthcoming with good advice without being pushy, as I mulled over various options for a sofa and chairs. I finally ordered a few weeks ago, and I should, all things going to plan, be seeing my new furniture in another few weeks.

Robert, whereabouts near Dublin exactly? I remember the old one in the Airside park at Swords but at that stage I had no money and no apartment :)

Second that about the horrible customer service in BoConcept's Cambridge, MA store. I didn't hear any yelling at customers as described above but we were sneered & jeered at by sales staff for no other reason than asking typical questions in a polite manner. This seems to be a problem in many U.S. BoConcept stores. Keep us posted Chicago whether or not this is the case in the windy city too!

Nephster, they're in the new Beacon South complex in Sandyford. There's also a Diamond Living (not too exciting), a Kube (some nice looking kitchens), and a Roche Bobois (some nice pieces, but big prices too), in Beacon South.

I LOVE BoConcept! I have a few pieces of their furniture, including a wonderful little ottoman that turns into a Swedish-mattress-type bed for guests. It is very comfortable -- I spent much of last summer sleeping on one while visiting a friend in NYC. http://www.boconcept.us/default.aspx?id=74866&ImageID=352

I've been purchasing my furniture from Scan Interiors in Wisconsin...it's great! No tax, you can order ANYTHING. :) I will be window shopping at the Clybourn store but buying from Scan Interiors to save on tax.

I think part of the problem with these stores is that each location is run by a different owner with a different set of standards. I've had the Cambridge location deny me services that other locations have been quick to offer. It really just depends. But yes, the Cambridge location is probably one of the worst.
