Design Classic: Verner Panton's BarBoy

2008-05-29-bar_boy.jpgDesigned in 1963, the BarBoy is one of Verner Panton's best known designs. Like a racy cousin to the much loved Componibili units, the BarBoy brings a little swinging...

Made of molded plywood with a high gloss finish and metal, it comes in white or black. The cylinder hides three storage areas and it is on casters.

For all this fabulousness, the price is high: the current re-issue by Vitra retails for $3000., but then again, no one ever said outfitting the bachelor pad was going to come cheap!

Available at Unica Home, Retromodern and many more retailers.

It would be great if IKEA could come up with a similar and as functional bar. Or maybe a hacker could revise a few nice looking trash cans to fit this well designed bill.

I love this. So much. I've wanted one for ages. But $3000? It costs more than my couch and no one can tell me there's anywhere near $3000 worth of materials or labor in that sucker.
