Inspiration: Luca Meda's 505 Modular System

We've mentioned our love for organizational grids before. Recently, our love has gravitated towards Luca Meda's 505 Modular System from Italian manufacturer Molteni & C. Available through Orange Skin in River North, the system's probably not within our budget, but it's great inspiration for anyone planning built-in shelving for their home...

The modular system is designed around an open core for your electronics, with adjustable shelves on either side for books and media. Lacquered doors can close off portions of the shelves when you have something to hide. The installation photos from Molteni are beautiful:

Looks very nice and,

Looks an awful lot like the IKEA Billy System with a couple extra holes drilled in and a bit more gloss in the paint. Which is a good thing, by the way. I guess there isn't a sliding door in the Billy - I'll have to hack that.

Ikea's BESTA system is actually ridiculously similar to this, including the sliding door option. This is just shinier. :)

except BESTA doesn't come in white, unfortunately.
