Level Bookcase by Arik Levy

We keep coming back to this picture of Arik Levy's Level bookcase ($7,648 at Unica Home). It's way out of our price range, but we love the Mondrian-style color grid.

We think a similar look could be created with a less expensive shelf. We'd start with something like IKEA's Expedit Bookcase ($199), and paint some of the inserts in orange and green. It wouldn't have the same asymmetrical appeal of the Level shelf, but it would bring a shot of color to an otherwise standard bookcase.

• You could also take the Hopscotch Bookcase from CB2 ($299) and paint the back in contrasting colors.

Any other ideas for Levy-inspired pieces?
