Thanks Sarahc and to everyone on the flat file post who tried to help me find a small cabinet. Much obliged.

I haven't seen it yet, but here's another option for files that I thought looked good:

the Aspvik Roll-Front Cabinet from Ikea is pretty shotty. we have the smaller one in the office here (like i sad we have a lot of ikea furniture). The roll top part looks like metal, but it's plastic. It's alright, just doesn't look that great, maybe painted a different color then white. We use it to house a battery backup and networking stuff, so it works ok for that.

another suggestion - file them upright in your bookshelf in cardboard magazine file boxes:

or plastic ones:

they give enough room so you can put your papers in folders first so they are well-kept as they stand upright.

you can place them back-side facing out with a label so you don't have to see the actual files (more visually pleasing).

you can also 'dress' up the boxes with lovely wallpaper or printouts of your favorite designs/locales. i have a few with printouts of photos of ferns i took while in australia.

this is so timely for me, as i'm just about to buy a mobile filing cabinet that i can rollll into the closet when i'm not needing it or rollll under my desk when i do. rolll rollll rollll, rollll in ze hay.

i do like the west elm one best, but i'm also just thinking of getting one at staples for $50...mainly because the staples cabinet has two filing drawers, not just one (or one with two shallower drawers, etc)

anyone seen a nice two drawer letter-sized filing cabinet on wheels? :)

I have the Blu Dot Modulicious file in walnut. It's gorgeous.

But OH MY GOD the experience of putting it together is a nightmare.

I can sum it up by saying that it took me two weeks, three deliveries, wire cutters, two sets of drawers, an extra set of runners, and ultimately some improvisation. They eventually gave me a full refund, so I can't complain too much, but given the immense amount of time and work I lost waiting for deliveries and putting things together, I am very suspicious of ever buying Blu Dot again.
