A small-scale item like the Narrow Leg Wardrobe from West Elm shown above ($399 - $499) can work at the end of a hallway. If your bedroom is too small for a wardrobe, a piece like this can be placed in an entryway, dining room, or living room.

Line wardrobes against a wall to create a storage space that looks like it's built-in. Image: PAX Wardrobe System from IKEA.

In a loft or studio, a line of wardrobes can create a room divider. This gorgeous DIY Wardrobe Room Divider is from AT:LA.
Wardrobes can be great for small places. However, most are 24" deep. Ikea has one Pax that is about 14" deep and can utilize a pull-out or collapsible hanging arm.

I'm looking for one that would be at most 64" high, and they are all far taller. Any advice on how to shorten or where to find?

i bought the Ikea ones in the wide and tall size with sliding frosted glass doors for extra storage in my kitchen. Although they are really useful and still good value given the price, the shelves are too weak to hold as much as their width allows. I thought I would store bottles of alcohol, olive oils, etc. and the shelves aren't strong enough. Still good for extra serving dishes, table cloths, etc.

I have a larger bedroom with a mini closet. A year or so ago, I bought the ikea Rakke, which I LOVE.
