Name: The Murrays
Location: Toronto, Ontario
Size & Type: 530 sq. ft. one bedroom condo
Favorite resource: "Craigslist, Ebay, Lee Valley Hardware, Canadian House & Home Magazine and Schoolhouse Electric."
Pitch: "A job transfer and an unexpected move back to the city forced us to downsize to a one bedroom condo. We started with a bland and boring space and way too much stuff. The process of evaluating and eliminating unnecessary items was a really positive one for us, setting a strong foundation for the rest of our design plan."

Very clever putting the cat right out front.

Charming... hide the booze...

I could live there! I like a lot, especially with cute kitty front and center!

i love the first picture, but can anyone see those personal photographs over the media unit? (i'm guessing here) It would be nice to either move those down to where they can be viewed by those sitting down and do something more sculptural instead.
small miniscule quibble, i'm voting stellar, this is my kinda place.

I think the dark brown wall needs more contrast. The armoire, chair and fan kind of blend in, but not in a way that seems intentional.
I love the use of rounded shapes in the dining room and the symmetry of the bedroom. Very inviting and calming.

A bit subdued for my taste - not enough risk - but a very nice home. Thoughtful, stylish, but comfortable and livable.
Also, I normally dislike the Bay blanket, but I quite like it here.

very calming.
I think AT is secretly controlled by cats.

I'm going to get a terrible reputation, but shouldn't that be "The Murrays Make a Nest" (no apostrophe)...
Meanwhile, I love the warmth here - nicely done.

The cat looks like it's about to eat a mouse with gusto. I would like to enlarge the pic of that cat face and put it on the wall.

I love it. Nice use of color. And unless there's kids over all the time, leave the booze. Nothing wrong with it. From what I can see it looks like you have expensive tastes in booze. I'd display it too.
The only thing I'd change would be using a different color armoire against the dark wall for contrast.
Someone said it was too subdued but I disagree. To me it looks like understated elegance. Kudos.
BTW, what software did you use to crate the floor plan drawing?

Really beautiful. You've chosen very serene wall colors. I love the restrained hand of your decorating. You have just the right amount of pops. Love your choice of organic lamps. The bedding is very pretty as well, love the red cross pillow.
I don't usually comment on pet pics - but that cat is so adorable. He made me smile.

Beautiful & comfortable. Could I ask where you found the 2 low open shelf units in the dining area? Have been trolling Craig's List for similar with no luck!

That cat cracks me up. It appears to be the classic kitty, "what are you doing, and does it involve getting me any food?" look. Cats have their priorities straight.

love your convex mirror... where did you find it?

The first picture made me laugh! Thanks! I love how the cat looks into the lens!
Your apartment has a nice cozy and calm atmosphere, nice colors. I like it although it is not entirely my style.

Rich colour palette, and classy, cozy ambience. Always a pleasure to see a fellow Canuck's crib! ;)

Because you have such a small space to work with, it is important to use mirrors and light wall colors. By doing so, it provides the illusion of a larger, more spacious, area.
The dark color pallette that you have chosen is wrong for such a small space.
My Vote: Not my thang, baby.

I love the mirror and the lamps... beautiful apt but kind of dark for my taste...

you definitely have a thing for reds and browns, and for hanging three framed photos in a row in the middle of a room...
the first two photos are nice...but nothing really stellar. i do like the bodroom, the mirror-framed mirror, and the sheets pillow combo especially.

Hed Kandi you are just repeating really dated ideas about decorating small spaces.
The dark colors are wonderful in a small space. I agree with the statement about the armoire. Also, the dining chairs could be replaced. Love the colors, lamps, mirrors, fan and the groupings of three.
I know it has nothing to do with design - but I am infatuated with your cat. So much attitude in one shot.

The puss obviously runs the household. Very warm and cozy.

Nice place, but why did they put the bath off of the living room and the bedroom off of the kitchen? Is that a Canadian thing?
Oh and that cat and all the comments. It reminds me of my committment to never date anyone with cats.

I love the way you made your home very cozy without making it look small. I think the rich warm colors really work well in giving this place a comforting atmosphere. As mentioned above, I do wonder if the three pictures above the media cabinet are in the best spot to be fully appreciated.

I'm amazed that anyone could call this apartment subdued . . . 500 sf, and you've worked in chocolate brown, orange, chartreuse and hot pink without losing a sense of cohesiveness.
Love, love, love!

Thanks for the comments and suggestions everyone.
To answer some questions:
I used Smartdraw to create the floorplan.
We built and finished the shelving units ourselves because we couldn't find what we were looking for. We spent a little over $200 for everything.
The convex mirror is from www.reflectingdesign.com and is the Dorian model.

I like your place because it's very tasteful. It looks like adults live there. I really like the bedroom with the red lamps and the red cross pillow. My only suggestion would be to buy more liquor. You can never have too much liquor.
Oh, and I want that cat. That cat can come and live with me in Los Angeles. In Los Angeles the sun is brighter and nicer and warmer. Your cat would like that.

Agree that there ain't nothing wrong with a liquor display (especially if you use it regularly) , and DISAGREE that dark colors are a mistake in a small space. Yes, dated thinking indeed.
The comment "AT is secretly controlled by cats" made me laugh out loud.
