Oh, wow! That's my table (in the lead photo). Mine is yellow, but all else is the same! Any suggestions for chairs? The person who owned it before me reupholstered them and they look awful!

I have that little ottoman in my office. (lead photo) Fun to see it in a picture!

These links look like a good way to spend a sleep Sunday morning!

Thanks, AT, for posting my place!

hilaryb: This table originally came with chrome and vinyl chairs in the same orange/red as the Formica. They also came with a set of "switch-out" vinyl seats and backs in lime green. Unfortunately, those chairs weren't dispensed to the family when Granddad moved out of the farmhouse. Big disappointment!

I think you could go with a grey-based fabric -- maybe try to find an original or repro barkcloth; check out Repro Depot for new options -- or, if you wanted to go a little wilder, you could find a turquoise- or chartreuse-based pattern. All three color options would get at the '50s vibe, but could read as modern. Good luck; and share photos! Feel free to post them in the comments on my blog, Living Small.

Janella: I love that little ottoman! We found ours at an antique mall years ago; bought it alongside the red vinyl armchair -- a reject from the long-defunct Olympia, Wash., Woolworth's -- just peeking out at the head of the dining table. Where did you find yours?

I really love the mirror in the last photo. Any hints on where I could get a similar?
