We're cooking at home this week! For recipes and tips, check out our sister site, The Kitchn, which was founded to provide home cooks with simple recipes and good information on how to make better, healthier food. We're also taking care of some other tasks, like fixing one thing in the apartment and buying a water filter. Keep us posted on your progress in the comments, and link to what you're working on for me and your fellow Curers to see. (Feel free to ask for help and advice in the comments as well.) Good links and assignments below...

Weekly Assignment (Deep Treatment): This is a tough week in terms of time. We're decluttering the kitchen from top to bottom and cleaning all surfaces. This can take a couple of days, so don't push yourself too hard. Spread it out over a few evenings or use this weekend to get it done. We're also cooking at home at least once this week. Both Deep Treatment and One-Room Workout folks are choosing a date for their housewarming this week. Setting an end date is important, since it keeps you on track to finish your work (until the next Cure).

Weekly Assignment (One-Room Workout): One-Room Workout folks are focusing on a floor plan. This step of the process is really important, since it's key in creating a vision for your space. Once you have a clear idea of what functions and what furniture are going into your room, things will fall into place much more easily. There are free floorplan programs on the web you can use (we've used Better Homes & Gardens Arrange-A-Room and Point.Click.Design) or an old-fashioned pencil and paper works just as well too.

A Note About Photos: Our photos on Apartment Therapy are usually 500-540 pixels wide, so please upload photos that are at least that size if you can. I can easily format photos that are too big, but it's hard to format small photos. Thanks!

I would like to thank everyone who has commented and helped me decide on my kitchen backsplash. My husband did want it painted orange, but came to the conclusion (along with everyone else pretty much) it just wasn't right. I have repainted it this morning with a creamy white semi-gloss and it looks fantastic! I think I will stick with getting my accent colors with colorful items! Again, thanks everyone!

Seeing that napkin up there inspired me to wash out an fuzzy orange throw I have from Ikea.
It has to be handwashed--in the bath tub--and it is NOT a job I would have done without being inspired.
I think rinsing might take all day.

Please put the Flickr link in the "related links" section? I'm constantly searching for it and it would just make things so much easier.
Today, I just want to keep tackling the job: stay down there and just fling, fling, fling. I relocated suitcases today covering a window and the sunlight is so wonderful!
But I also feel overwhelmed. Now that I can see the space and move in it, my mind is whirling with possibilities.
--how can I feel both at once?

It really is cleansing to acknowledge the spaces of our homes that we try not to think about. I sat in the far corner of my son's room tonight and did a bit of thinking of how I can make his space more useful. I tend to avoid thinking about his room since it's the nursery that we never finished decorating.
We've been cleaning closets and managed to gift alot of items to Habitat for Humanity and Freecycle. I'm also feeling a bit overwhelmed with decorating decisions.
Is there a guideline as to how many pics we need to submit to flickr? I'm not taking pics as often as I should...

As far as flickr goes, upload whatever you want some feedback on and or you want folks to see. Uploading your "befores" now, is a good idea because flickr limits the number of pixels you can use each month--and if you try to upload before and after at the same time, all in one month (like at the end of the cure) you'll run out of "room."
If you do upload a picture of your space and ask a question like, what colour rug should I get? --also include pictures that show your taste, otherwise known as a style tray. Then, folks have a handle on what to suggest.
hth.
I finally got that dratted blanket washed and wrung out--but never, never, never again am I buying a throw that says, "handwash only." It was so filthy.
It's this one: I think.

I totally got distracted with decorating the new sewing area (which I hope to post pictures up soon) that I need to get focused back on the kitchen. I never realized what a daunting task that really is especially since my husband is the cook and I need his "opinion" before I throw out anything.

I confess to doing next to *nothing* so far this week. I can't be burned out already, just a glitch. Not sure what I've been doing with myself instead. Tonight and tomorrow night aren't looking good for curing either, being occupied by Holy Week observances. So, I'll have to commit to spending some moderate and well-bounded block of time on Saturday to a general kitchen cleaning - fortunately, it's not in bad shape. I may also be able to borrow a drill and make some headway on hanging curtain rods, since I've already measured and marked for them.

Spiffed up the living room a bit, using that napkin for inspiration.
Would love some suggestions for painting the trunk. I'm thinking green may be the most versatile approach. (This will not likely be done again for a very long time. There are too many silver rivets to peel back paint from).

Would love some imput. This piece is a sort of focal point by default.

I played around and virtually painted the thrunk: options here: http://prairiehometherapy.blogspot.com/2008/03/voting-time.html
Which one should I go with?
