CHI Spring Cure: Week Seven - The Bedroom

4-21-08cure2.jpg

4-21-08curelogo.jpg Week Seven is one of the most important parts of the Cure, since it focuses on a very personal space - the bedroom. This room is crucial to your health, and should be a place where you can relax. If you've got any money to spend during the Cure, splurge on something for your bedroom. We recommend an air purifier if you don't already have one. For suggestions, search our archives. We're spending some time decluttering and cleaning, which can also improve your bedroom's air quality a lot. Lots of photos and good links below.

Weekly Assignment (Deep Treatment): Declutter the bedroom, clean all the surfaces, wash your sheets, and if you have any extra money spend it on upgrades like an air purifier or organic bedding.

Weekly Assignment (One-Room Workout): This week is all about cleaning up, which takes a good amount of time. Arrange furniture and lighting, wrangle cords, clean all workspaces, and get your room back into good shape post-painting. For tips on hanging artwork, see this post.

Merskine,
Can you tell us what color of paint you used in your living room? It reads as a teal in the photos and is just beautiful with everything you have.

hi all -- i'm merskine on flickr, but moni-ka in ky on AT. sorry for the confusion!!

I REALLY wish I knew the living room paint color to share. It was already that color when we moved in - I couldn't believe how well it went with our stuff! It's an unusual color...It reads as a soft grey most of the time, but it definitely has a greenish-teal quality depending on the light. I know they used Valspar paint in the rest of the house. Next time I see our landlord I'll bug him about it...and maybe going searching through our (scary) basement for an old can. We need do some touchups anyway...I LOVE the color so I'm hoping we don't have to repaint altogether!

Stephvixen -- I don't think your sofa and paint clash at all! Actually, I was drooling over your blue paint and pops of yellow last night.

That evil cat is an old painting I got at a yard sale a few years back. I think it's rather old.

Does anyone else live with someone who just empties his pockets on the dresser and never ever throws any of it out?

Markers and pencils by the dozen, receipts, cards, even cough drops...I put a nice tray on the dresser to corral it all....but now I want something that will hide it (but not be too big like a basket.) Has anyone come up with a solution to this? It can't be anything with a cover: good grief, if he can't put it in the garbage, he's not going to lift a cover!
Thanks.

I'm not ending up as productive as I started out, but I'm having unexpected time constraints, so I'm ok with it. Sometimes you just gotta let go, ya know? Besides, I'm not in a rush, I'll keep finishing projects as I can even after week 8 is long gone.

Last weekend I managed to clean out the linen closet, even the boy noticed! I also switched out the winter clothes (but have yet to fill it with all the summer clothes, so the closet looks refreshingly empty for a change.

I hope to finally hang living room art this weekend. Thanks to your flickr feedback, I'm going to use what I have rather than making a hurried purchase. If it turns out as good as I imagine it, I'll be thrilled.

Dare I hope we can get and hang a bedroom fan too? Stay tuned. ;)

Alana - I feel your pain. The boy has a basket on the landing strip, cups of change in the laundry area (for when he doesn't empty pockets), and throws receipts in a dresser drawer. It's mostly hidden, but there is so much of it it still drives me nuts!

Thanks for the sympathy, Candice.

I'm in the process of working out a chore system for the kids. One of the things the authors recommend when cleaning a room, for example, is a list of things "allowed" out on surfaces. That way, when you inspect whether the child has done it "properly" there's no argument about what should and should not be there.

Sigh. I wish my m-i-l had done something like this.

Due to multiple illnesses in my household and other issues, I have not been able to participate as much a I would have liked. Please remove me from the list. I'll catch the next one....
