Boy oh boy, it's been a week full of progress! Thank you to all of our Cure participants who have so graciously shared the steps you are taking along this journey with us. You've sent us emails and uploaded photos of all your hard work and I've felt terribly inspired myself, from just watching the flood of renovations and organization that's happening! The Spring Cure is contagious like a yawn in a crowded room and we're taking over beautifying the world one room at a time. So who's ready for a little Show & Tell?
turk182 has been patiently waiting 9 months for the board and the city to approve the purchase of their home. Because of this, living has felt more like the life of a renter instead of an owner. Finally gaining the approvals needed, The Spring Cure has transitioned this space into one that feels like a place you can truly hang your hat. Nice work!
We featured the before shot of this space earlier this week, from San Francisco based Apartment Therapy reader Kiki Clark, in our Week 5: Tips & Tricks post. Take a look at the progress that was made to tidy things up and get the chaos under control. Great organization and congrats on a job well done!
Lynne from New York is tackling her 4th Cure with us. Hard work in the spaces we live in always pays off and feels rewarding. Here's what she has to say about it...
"I love that I do not have to spend too much to make a beautiful home. The best part of doing the cure for the fourth time is that I do not have to organize too much, I mainly focused on deep cleaning and fun decorating projects."
Lynne picked up a new bedspread this time around (for less than $25 from Overstock) that matched the makeover she did on her side table perfectly. Great job, keep up the hard work!
You remember Adam from Denver don't you? He shared with us the assembly process of the desk he ordered back in Week 4 (and the packing materials that were taking over his living space!). Well here it is all put together and it is the perfect size for the space intended. There's nothing more gratifying than knowing the research you did on an item was correct (especially after the hours it takes to assemble!) and all the hard work pays off! Enjoy your new office area Adam!
krpm1 from our Apartment Therapy Flickr Pool has been aquiring a green thumb over the last few weeks. After finding seeds and containers (although we love what you ended up using for containers instead!) at Target for $1, she gave window sill gardening a try! Things are sprouting and you're sure to have an arsenal of fresh herbs in no time. Nothing makes eating at home more special than herbs picked from your own garden (no matter if it's located inside or out).
chottomotto has done a great job making over the pantry, which makes cooking a snap. We especially love her idea of using old Spaghetti jars to hold stray noodles. She flips them upside down so she can see at a glance what's roaming around in her pantry. It's a great way to store the tail ends of bags and boxes without the pantry pile up that can occur. She also avoids one large pot taking over the refrigerator by portioning leftovers into single servings immediately after dinner. Check out the Flickr pool to get the recipe used to make the organic meatballs and sauce pictured above.
jendavid1000 has made over her kitchen. From paint to shelf liners, from hardware to resurfacing the dishwasher, the elbow grease applied looks fantastic! She ordered silver appliance film from Ebay and gave her dishwasher new life for $26. What a great idea! In her cabinets there's cork liner put down on each shelf, but in contrast with the paint used, the cork appeared too orange so she painted the cork white. Now form meets function and blends seamlessly. Get all the details on her renovation here.
One of the hardest things to do is organize media. For anyone who is a collector of any kind when it comes to entertainment (magazines, dvds, records and so forth), there is a fine line that creates organization amidst the chaos. Erin has been hard at work and has let us see the half way point of the massive organization she's been under taking. So far so good! You can take a closer look at the before and half way pictures in the Spring Cure Flick Pool.
Jim from Redwood City, Ca has been spending time outdoors lately. After some work on a sewage line left the rock bed uneven and damaged a couple years ago, the Spring Cure has given him the motivation needed to tackle the leveling process. The finished work looks fantastic and is a job well done. Although it might seem simple, moving rock is no easy chore, but it creates for an almost maintenance free effect down the road. Great work! Check out more of Jim's outdoor renovations and step by step photos over at Flickr.
Thanks to all those who remember to take pictures along the way so we can keep up with all your hard work! You're doing great and thanks for making it a fantastic week for Show and Tell!

Tackling the bathroom today!
I've already made a list of the bits and pieces I'd like to buy: a ceramic hand soap dispenser to replace the plastic supermarket one, a hook to hang the basin hand towel and some nice bath salts.
Next task on the list is to de-clutter the cabinets before the big clean.
My husband and I visited our city's biggest produce market yesterday. It was our wedding anniversary (any trip out without toddlers can be special). We wandered about looking at all the unusual (to us) vegetables, spices and seafood and came home with some nice cheeses, salami, boxes of apples (husband wants to try making cider) and masses of garlic, root vegies and bananas.
The husband spent last night telling anyone who would listen that my anniversary present was a 10 kg bag of onions...

sarahrae, thanks for all the careful detail regarding my kitchen mini-redo, I'm really proud of it and it's nice to see it here. Everybody is just slamming this Cure, it's great to be part of this hardworking and supportive group of people.

Off to flea market in Rhode Island. I've been able to get so much done in my kids' rooms and my kitchen. My pantry organization has totally changed all of our lives...kids know which bin has their snacks and where to put things back. We know what is running low on grocery day. My kids love their room even though it's not done. The diy projects the Cure has inspired me to make me feel really accomplished. I've also some how freed up extra energy to open an Etsy store. This Cure has had effects on me I never anticipated. (But boy, I'm tired!)

Thanks Sara for the nod. I've always followed the Cure from afar and was always so amazed and inspired by what people who take on The Cure achieve. But I had no idea how much work goes into it everyday until I tried it! Even still, it is so very worth the work, from the feelings of accomplishment, to the freeing of your mind from distractions, to the luxury of really living in a space you enjoy.
I'm taking on 3 whole rooms at a time and it's really too much. Anyone who completes even the briefest of Cures deserves kudos.
My big take away so far is that the outline for the Cure can used on so many different levels. I'm inspired to take Tim Gunn's 10 things list and the Cure and do a closet and wardrobe makeover later this year!

That rock garden is really pretty!

This does look great!
My cure has run out of steam. I just couldn't motivate this weekend. It's 1/2 way done, and it just is so depressing in its unfinishedness. :(

I got the kids' bedrooms switched around. Formerly, the smaller bedroom was the playroom and the larger one was a room for 3 girls. Now, the two older girls have their bunkbed in the smaller room. This has helped a lot because the littlest girl doesn't sleep well with other people in the room, and the older girls are getting more sleep because the back bedroom is darker (darker color and only one window) and because the littlest sister isn't keeping them awake. Little sis has her bed in the larger bedroom, which now has the armchair (for reading time) and a nice big open space for play during the daytime. This sister can sleep in the brighter room just fine, and she doesn't have other people in the room to bother.
I'm in the process now of eliminating extra furniture and clutter. We are much better at accumulating things than at getting rid of them! So far I have promised my hubby only to put things in the shed and not give them away. Hopefully he will see how much nicer it is without the extra things. He's afraid of us not having enough storage without all the extra bookshelves and cabinets that are going out the door.
