Friends of ours told us about a weekend visit that they recently made to Manahattan. They stayed with friends and one of the things they mentioned was that their host's cupboards were bare when it came to morning beverages.
Their friends picked up their coffee or tea after leaving home everyday - no brewing at home at all.
It made us curious - do you use your kitchen for coffee/tea making in the morning or is a neighborhood cafe your first stop?

All of the above.
And then some.
And then some more at the office.
I may have a problem...

I used to be a Starbucks addict but last year finally kicked the habit. Now we make coffee at home, mostly from Intelligentsia beans, and are much happier for it!

If I walked to work or the train in the morning I would probably wind up buying a coffee or tea along the way but since I'm a driver I hate adding any time to my already long commute so I brew at home and take it with me. I can't imagine not having ANYTHING in the house because even if you live close to a great cafe who wants to change out of their pj's on a lazy Sunday morning just to go get a cup of coffee? Or maybe that's the point - if I had to go out for my caffeine I might get going a little earlier on the weekends.

During the week I try to wait and have coffee at the office. Weekends I make my own for the first round then head out into the neighborhood for a second (or third) round.

I have the whole barista set-up at home: "pro-sumer" espresso machine, burr grinder and fresh beans from Intelligensia each week.
I am confident that my shots are better than most places where I would buy a coffee.

I try to brew at home with beans from Intelligentsia or Metropolis (unless I venture close to either place). We have a lot of sad coffee in Chicago.
Umm, good coffee is hard to come by in NYC. Ninth Street Espresso is good, as are Café Grumpy and Gorilla Coffee, but the options fall off sharply from there. Quite shocking, for a city like that.

Re: espresso in NYC. I would highly recommend Zibetto Bar on 6th Ave at 56th street.

I used to spend too much money at Caribou every morning. Then, I bought a coffee maker and love it! I set it the night before, and wake up to the smell of freshly brewed coffee every morning...
