Our housekeeping style is to tackle little bits of our little apartment each day. We don't actually change into old clothes designated for house cleaning, but often - regrettably - find ourselves cleaning house in our pajamas in the early morning or late night.
A different, and we suspect much more common, approach is tackling the entire house in one day. A designated cleaning day allows for more appropriate dress than ours: maybe old sweats, rubber gloves, and a scarf or hat.
What about you - do you dress the part when it comes to cleaning house or, like us, are you cleaning in your pajamas or similarly inappropriate attire (<<< like this guy in the business suit)?

Gym shorts, ballcap and flipflops...
...easy to shuck off when it's time to scrub the shower.

Gotta clean when the inspiratino strikes, or all is lost -- no time to change clothes! (Yes, I have ruined a few garments in my time...)

Clean the house?? Life's too short. If company's coming dim the lights and spray a little Pledge in the air ...

I'm usually wearing a nightgown. Of course, that is my normal at home outfit. I even have an old nightie that I wear when I'm painting. I did have to give up doing yard work in my nightie when we moved here because now we are in a curb and sidewalk kind of neighborhood. Our last house was up off the road, and my husband would laugh at me when I was outside watering the garden wearing my nightgown and rubber boots.

I tend to clean in my underwear, it's easier in case you get wet, and then you can slip if all off to clean the tub and shower. Kind of ridiculous, but it works for me.

I clean something everyday, when the inspiration strikes, as SherryBinNH put it. Wiping counters and running the vacuum cleaner don't really necessitate a special outfit.
I do put on old clothes when I do a deeper house cleaning (e.g. scrubbing the shower/tub or doing the windows)

I'm with SherryBinNH - I wear whatever I happen to be wearing!
Although, the title of this post made me think of starting to wear a French maid outfit, haha.

Unless it's just a quick cleanup or I'm doing some intense cleaning, I usually throw on a flowy skirt and tank top. It's easier to move in a skirt than jeans or sweats... I actually don't own any sweats so... yeah.

I clean for an hour on Saturdays, and 15 minutes each day (flylady). Daily I do not change, but on the Saturday hour of cleaning, I wear slippers and a hair scarf. Kick the slippers off when I get into the shower to clean it.

Shorts. But I am now considering switching to the outfit shown above. . .

im a stay at home mom so i usually stay in my pjs... i clean in the morning/early afternoon, then shower, then get into normal clothes before my husband comes home. no sense in getting all dressed first thing in the morning since im gonna get messy... and my toddler contributes to that as well- unless we have an appt or are going somewhere in the morning.

When I clean, it almost always starts in the kitchen and moves out, so I very frequently have full-front apron on. And PJs underneath.

Random vacuming and putting away dishes and clothes no, but I (try to) sweep and mop everything at least every other week. I usually do the whole apartment at once. For this I put on cleaning clothes. So I don't get something pretty all grimy.

I like to clean the entire apartment on Monday evening. This may sound odd, but there are several podcasts that refresh over the weekend (including This American Life & Wait Wait Don't Tell Me) that when I listen to while cleaning make the chores go by in no time. Im usually in a comfortable pair of sweatpants and a past it's prime American Apparel T-shirt. The dog hates Monday nights, he is usually relegated to a small corner of the living room watching as I tear through the apartment.

shorts, old t-shirt and full front apron (having big pockets is priceless when cleaning). I clean the whole house on Friday mornings, so I'd rather wear something comfy.
O, and I hate doing any type of cleaning in my PJs. I want them super fresh and clean for when I go to bed!

When I get in the mood for a full apartment clean or do anything involving chemicals... I raid my boyfriend's closet. A pair of his boxers and an old t-shirt are basically perfect... comfortable, cool, not too much exposed skin to injure/not too much fabric to get dirty, and no worries about stains or rips. The down side is I end up needing to change or have him get it if I want to go outside for some reason during the cleaning process (for example, if I run out of soap, etc). I like all of my own clothes too much to risk harming them, including my PJs! But I will admit that (like amandagrace) shower cleaning can get a little scandalous around here...

In my pj's on Saturday morning. I always plan to change into some ratty clothes, but I end up just starting with out the clothes change. If I clean during the week, I change out of work clothes and into old stuff.

I, too, clean in my underwear, mostly because I have no a/c and it gets very hot in my place when I'm cleaning.

it really depends of the time. If i am alone and have the energy, i'll tidy up first thing in the morning = pajamas. If i didn't do that and have the energy, i'll do a few chores when i'm home from college.
But for the really heavy cleaning, i usually take 8 - 14 hours (and thats for a 2 bedroom apartment with 2 bathrooms). Its what i take for putting things away, cleaning the fridge sorting laundry, lifting whatever can be lifted and cleaning, then putting things back in place. And about 10 minutes for putting together a sountrack for all that. Obviously, the gear depends of the season - thru summer i'll wear underwear, and thru winter i start with an old sweatsuit, then eventually end up only in a t-shirt. The hilarious part is that i do all the cleaning in a mask (allergies), a japanese bandana (with the hiragana for Don't give up!), flip flops and yellow rubber gloves. Which is the true reason why i kick the Mister out of the place to clean up. :D

I cover my hair, because I hate getting dust in my hair. Other than that, I try to remember to wear grubby clothes so I don't ruin anything nice.

I change into my "home clothes" the moment I come back home from work. I have there pairs of pants (mostly it's my old, biggish cargo pants) I switch between - they are comfy to unwind after work, and they can also get messy without regrets). plus that it's mostly a t-shirt, sometimes with a sweatshirt if colder. I don't have special cleaning clothes. I also don't like to stay in my slacks at home - bad for the slacks, and simply not very comfortable for longer!

Sadly I usually look like a 50's housewife or something. Capris, flannel shirt, bandanna holding my hair up, etc. Usually I feel like I should be holding a drink for my fiance when he gets home - LOL - though neither of us are into alcohol.

For years I wore an apron at my job in a floral shop.
I discovered that the apron was great to wear while doing housework.........I think it was a psychological thing, because wearing the apron made me feel as if I should be working.
I no longer work at the floral shop, but I still wear the apron to clean house, lol.

PJs or underwear and I clean on Sunday's - a full cleaning of the apartment. Then I laze around for the rest of the day before the work week starts.
view TrishM's profile
I just keep on my street/work clothes. I throw on an apron if I'm cooking or splashily washing dishes.
The only exception is anything involving bleach. I ruined my favorite pair of black pants a few years ago and it was traumatizing. So the bleach only comes out when I'm wearing my rattiest clothes.

I'll never forget the day I walked into my mom's house and she was vacuuming in her one-piece bathing suit. She lives in Florida, so it makes perfect sense.

Yes. I totally put a bandana on my head like a cleaning lady or AKA a gang member. But it keeps my hair from getting gross. And yeah, I wear those tacky yellow rubber gloves so I don't need to get my hands gross. I also love aprons but that's for cooking not cleaning.

Old t-shits and yoga pants become "house clothes" that I change into as soon as I get home from work. Not quite pj's, but not really "cleaning attire" either.
