The other day, we were sorting through old photographs we have stored in a box. It then occurred to us that, except for our wedding album, we really don't have any photo albums in our home. Are photo albums truly a thing of the past?

The the last 6 years, about 95% of our photographs have been digital -- our memories stored on our hard drives. A part of us yearns for the straightforwardness of printed photographs and actual albums, so much so that we think it's time to invest on some albums.
We love the idea of using one of Russell+Hazel's gorgeous binders as an album, the items available at the Paper Source, and for a total splurge Barbara Wiggins' Italian Songbird Soft Leather Photo Album.
Paper Source's Curry Blossoms Album, $72.
Russell + Hazel's Slim Three-ring Binder, $20.
Barbara Wiggins' Italian Songbird Soft Leather Photo Album, $125
With these choices and so many more, we're excited to get going. What about you? Do you still use photo albums?
yes, althought digital cameras encourage you to take way more photos than you want to pay printing on. i wait for an online sale like snapfish at 9 cents/print.

Previously I would never have had photo albums. Mainly due to laziness. I have a box with some photos that matter to me, but I'm not big on photos. However, I had a baby. And that changed everything. I'm not camera happy and crazy with photos, but I want my daughter to have the fun of going through albums of photos when she's older. I always liked doing that with the albums and the box my parents had.
I also don't want all of our digital images stuck on media that will be out of date when she's older. So this way there is a collection of the printed images in case the digital files get lost/ruined/are not easily viewable at some point.

I've been scrapbooking religiously since I was six. I think that officially makes me a nerd.

Isn't scrapbooking somewhat of a huge crafts market?

I don't do the massively time-consuming scrapbooking, but I do like to get my pictures printed and put them in an album, just because it's nice to just sit down in a comfy chair and look at them. I spend enough time looking at a computer screen all day that it's nice to look at my pictures elsewhere. My last album I did was one of the pre-printed variety (www.blurb.com), and it actually came out quite nice and wasn't that expensive or take too long.

I used to do photo albums but I have recently switched over to doing photobooks, like www.blurb.com or www.mypublisher.com. Nice quality, and its a real book!

Because I move so often, it became so bulky to carry around so many photo albums, so I scanned all the photos and created a DVD photo album. I found a very inexpensive DVD burner (from HP) that already had a wonderful software program to help in creating this project. I organized the photos into categories and used different music styles for each category for the underescoring. I made extra copies and passed them out last Christmas. It was a huge hit!

For the last forty years I have done albums, but I found myself taking less and less photos because I did not want to deal with the prints, and that is sad. I have changed to digital.

I make photo-books for my grandparents once a year or so. They live far. We do use photo albums, but we need to be reminded to print the photos. Our kiddo likes to look at the albums, and I have a couple of albums of my childhood pictures.

I want a real artifact with photos in it, not a digital album that no one wants to flip through.
However, this issue has been a thorn in my side begging for a solution. Photo albums are getting more and more expensive, hold
I found a large art book at the goodwill that had lots of glossy photos and little text, which I pasted photos over. It's neat, but there are drawbacks: It's trying to fall apart from the weight, for one, and the cost of glue sticks might not have been worth the savings. I'd love recommendations.
Going to check out what laurielu is talking about now...

I keep the old albums of when I was a kid...
...but everything new is digital, and I only print out the ones that I put into frames for myself or as gifts.

Most of what I shoot I keep digitally, but if there's something in particular that I want to document (like my trip to Paris last year), I'll print out my favorite shots and include them in a scrapbook.

I mostly have small themed albums now, filled with some print and some digital.
My older albums from high school were pretty much falling apart, so I took all the pictures out and put them in photo boxes for now.

I still love scrap books for trips, but usually I just print and put them in a drop in photo album. I keep extras in photo boxes, and back up my files on kodak.com and my extra hard-drive. Yeah, keeping memories is pretty intense.

I like to make small albums for special occasions and to give as gifts. I would love to keep all my photos in albums but the volume is overwhelming. Since we don't have to pay for each print we take many more digital photos and then theres the whole task of sorting....makes me tired just thinking about it!

After losing a large amount of photos on my harddrive when my computer crashed, I started printing more.
I also still use film most of the time simply because my film camera takes amazing photos and my digital is so-so.
I keep albums, but it's been a while since I added anything new to them. I like to look at them every once in a while.

I love putting together "real" albums after an event or trip. I usually store them in my living room and people love to check them out when they visit for the first time or just want a quick stroll down memory lane.

target has reasonably priced albums ($12.99) with pages that can hold two 4x6 or one 5x7, and hold as many as 200 4x6 pics. mine holds 160 4x6 photos. and it's really pretty.

I love albums!! I really haven't done one in a while. But when I moved away my best friend made one for me with pictures of all of us having a great time.. When I'm missing them I just look at it and remember all the good times. I could also see pictures on-line but for some reason the album makes it so much Personal..

I'm purely digital now - and the photos I did have in albums I took out of them (they were a kind that are bad for the photos) and put into photo boxes. The photo boxes aren't as much fun to page through - but I hardly ever did that, anyway, and the boxes take so much less room.
For those who do want albums, I have some nice ones listed on my blog, here and here.

Large, plain sketch books from the art store are often cheaper than specially made albums. The paper is acid-free, so it's safe for photos and you can customize it as you wish. I cover mine with paper, fabric, or a mixture of gesso and chalk, which I then paint over.

the use of "still" in this title made me laugh. like, "are you still livin' in the past, oh lame one?" it is an interesting question though.
we don't have albums and the majority of our photos are from an ok-quality digital camera. as we have moved a lot, too, they remain largely on our computer.

I still use photo albums and love nothing more than spending time printing off my photos and putting them into a photo album - even if I don't look at them that often! I love Noble Macmillan luxury photo albums. They have a recent article about the top 5 way to keep your treasured photos in top condition that makes an interesting read.
