Survey: Tea or Coffee?

033007Tea-Pot.jpgWe love tea, but we've reached the point where lack of coffee in the morning results in a headache.

This is so sad to us, because for years we had the luxury of not needing either, but liking both. We'd simply drink whichever one we felt like in the morning. Now it's sort of a coffee-in-the-morning, tea-in-the-afternoon scenario. We'd like to know what type of drinkers you are...and does it change if you're at home versus out in the world? What are your favorite products for either tea or coffee time?

I love both. But I'm the same way Heather, it has to be coffee in the morning, otherwise I'll have a wicked headache by late morning. Tea just won't cut it.

Me too - coffee in the morning, tea in the afternoon or evening.

My favorite products are my Capresso burr grinder and Bodum French press. These are perfect for coffee for one when it's just me and coffee for two when my husband is home. The small size of both means easy clean-up and I don't have to leave a machine out on my very limited counter space.

katie - I also get the no coffee/no caffeine headache if I skip my morning coffee.

Coffee in the morning. Every morning.

I love Thundermuck coffee, and mail order it even though I no longer live near the business. They're very consistent.

My favorite coffee weapons are a press pot and an electric kettle. I finally ponied up for a "cordless" kettle. Meaning that the kettle attaches to a corded base. It's much easier to use, clean, and fill. More importantly, I'm less likely to create catastrophe with it.

Hi the headache thing is probably due to caffeine addiction that tea just wont help and your body is going through withdraw if it doesn't get its regular fix. I'm serious (google it if you don't believe me). I should know I've been a coffee addict for many many years. I only drink one to two cups in the morning, but if I don't, I'm a mess.

Although I have given up coffee for long stretches of time, the first few days of cold turkey are headache central. Then they go away completely. Exederin or other headache medicine and lots of water help if you are trying to go cold turkey. Otherwise just know you'll feel like crap for the first 1-4 days.

Coffee - It's some powerful drug.

I have the same problem, but with tea. I have never liked coffee, but some strong English Breakfast tea in the morning is my breakfast, my warmth in the cold car, and my absolute necessity. I don't think it has quite as much caffeine as coffee, but I get a headache if I don't have tea by 10 am.

I quit once for two weeks. It was miserable. I had headaches for the first week, and then I was just yawning all the time.

But isn't tea at least a *little* good for you?

Coffee, or more specifically, espresso.

Last year I bought a Pasquini espresso machine through the Illy A Casa program (they give you a huge discount on the machine if you commit to buying $50 worth of espresso each month for a year). I will admit that drinking twice as much espresso each month has been a bit of a challenge.

Like most complicated appliances, it's already required some replacement parts and numerous emails to the primary distributor in L.A., but that baby really impresses dinner guests!

Lizzy C, you are so right, coffee is so freaking addictive! I'm only a one cup a day gal, 2 on the weekends (a treat to myself). So it's nuts that if I don't get that one cup, or even just a few sips, my day is almost completely ruined.

And S, I recently read a study that tea loses a lot of its benefits if you add milk to it.

I, too, need coffe in the morning to get myself "running". During weekdays this will by preferably Nespresso (Café Forte ), at home i'll have Nescafé Redcup coffee. Once my new kitchen is installed i plan to get a Nespresso machine for my home, too, i'll finally have more counterspace to put it on.

Tea has a more relaxing meaning to me. I love to have some good tea in the evening at home, or on weekends in the afternoon, while reading a book, or surfing the web.
Here, my favourites are "Marco Polo Rouge " from Mariage Frères, which is made from Roobios and does not contain théine, but i also heart good Earl Greys ( Fortnum&Mason ).
Mariage Frères also sells online, but a stop in their shop in the Marais of Paris is a must, i f you happen to spend some days there.

I forgot to get coffee on the way home one evening, and didn't remember I was out until right before bed, but thought, "No problem - I have a ga-zillion kinds of tea. Had Irish Breakfast the next morning. Not good. Walked in the door at work and someone asked me a question... really not good... "Do I look like I'm at my desk? Do I look like I have the answer right at my fingertips??? I haven't had any coffee - don't even talk to me!!!"
My boss brought me a cup of coffee, and a baggie full from the office supply and asked me to please be sure that I either didn't run out again or called in sick.

I'm a coffee person, but luckily tea will do it for me as well. As for my favorites, Love Buzz from Equal Exchange and a nice Earl Grey make me a happy gal. I'm all about the coffee press and a lovely old yellow Lipton's tea pot. For me less is more.

Coffee is pretty much the only way I can really, truly get myself going, whether it's morning or afternoon.

Tea is pretty much going to be iced, and only with lunch or dinner, but I'm quite likely to have coffee afterwards, with while sharing a dessert, or instead of dessert.
