Survey: Where Do You Keep Your Remote Controls?

040209-remotecontrols.JPG We've been trying to thin out the clutter in our spaces with the Spring Cure and came across a dilemma tonight. We don't have a place to keep our remote controls. We haven't gone Universal yet, but probably should soon, although we're secretly afraid of only have 1 remote to lose instead of 5. Without a coffee table for them to rest on/in we're looking for other creative options. Answer our survey below and see Unplggd's best advice to remote control storage after the jump.

Um - Where's the answer:
"In a drawer of the coffee table/end table"?

Because that's where mine live.

Ah! I've been trying to figure out a place to put mine for so long, instead of just on the coffee table. I really like the glass jar idea.

The ones for the audio equipment go on top of the receiver (in a bookshelf). The TV/Wii/DVD/VCR ones go on the lower shelf of the coffee table.

I second that -- respell "dilemma"...
and rephrase "in their own bedroom" please.
Do you mean somewhere specific...
like beside the tv, in a container, in a drawer, in a box, in a vase, on a tray, on a wooden plate... et cetera

We use a cute kids' tin bucket with a handle. It sits next to our seating and can be passed around or can sit on the table. Hiding them away some where doesn't work for us.

i have something similar to the picture... a white ikea plant pot that was just sitting around holds them on my bookshelf... we have to keep them away from our toddler.

I use a remote control organizer/caddy, think I bought it at BB&B. Also available at Amazon.

The universal remote mainly lives on the coffee table as paperweight to newspapers being read, but the remotes in general live in a pretty gift tray shelved underneath the tv system and beside the stereo.

On a shelf in the coffee table, or on one of the shelves in the TV stand.

Huh... I just realized I don't have any remote controls in my apartment. I seriously never really noticed that. I guess that's what happens when you don't have cable.

On a tray or sometimes, accidentally, between the sofa cushions.

Wow my post disappeared!? no hard feelings.
How about on a wooden tray on a shelf beside the tv -- accessible and stylish!

I have a little box for them. It's dark wood, square... I have no idea why I bought it, but it became a remote holder over time.

Um just think the "their own bedroom" option is an odd choice of words that's all, Sarahrae. Just my opinion.
Where's the "in a special, designated place (not labelled)" option?
In a *drawer* -- that's where I store my collection.

I use a vintage animal crackers tin to corral my remotes - works well except for that tiny appletv remote - which I try to put on top of it so we dont lose it... but we have iphones which work as a remote so it's not too big of a deal :)

cptnruthless- your iphone works as a remote?! WOAH! that blows my mind! i'm so behind on technology...i've just been figuring out that my parents huge lcd/plasma (i've got no clue what i'm talking about here) is so much better than my tube tv. && i had no idea i could hook my laptop up to a larger monitor. this is SO sad, i'm 22, i'm supposed to be "up" on these kinds of things!!

I said "free range," but I guess they're more "in a pen" (aka the middle shelf of our nightstand). They live happily there along wtih cell phones, mp3s, and other similar-shaped gadgets.

I honestly don't get the issue with the, "Their Own Bedroom" line. I took it as, they had so many remote that they had to give them a room to themselves. Was that not the intent?

Anyway, I gave my two cents about this in the Unpluggd artcile:

I used to have a pretty basket that they all got put it to. But we finally got a universal remote, so now we just have one for everything and it just hangs out on the coffee table.

I bought a large used book (on a subject I don't fancy) and cut space for them with an exacto knife.

Now if I could only find a way to get my husband to put them back!

Ours just sit on top of the coffee table. I highly recommend logitech universal remotes. It's cool freaky sometimes, but all I have to do is bump the couch and it lights up, ready for use.
