The $50,000 Bed

2007-02-08-hastens.pngShelteriffic just posted this - Tom Cruise bought a new bed recently.

The Vividus. By Hastens. For $50,000....

We think a good bed is important to your health and happiness, and it's not the place to skimp. And, ok, best bed in the world - sure, if you say so. After all, the horse hair in it is hand-flailed !?!?

But still...$50k?

It would be pretty easy to get into the 5K range with a good memory foam or latex mattress and add a nice frame into the picture and it get's into the 7K range.

I remember when I bought my first mattress (coiled springs) and it was 3K for the mattress and box springs. I called my mother to express my surprise at how expensive those things were and she responded with "welcome to adulthood" and "wait til you have your first child."

Ah, good times, good times.

are you people fisting me?? $5K for a bed???
mine came from a mattress outlet and was $300. slap a foam egg crate mattress topper on top, and all of my friends that have ever laid on it have exclaimed how comfortable it is.
you people are out of your goddamned minds.
(of course, we already knew that about tom cruise....)

The only time I am going to sleep on something that costs more than fifty thousand dollars will be if I pass out on the hood of a ferrari.

My life isn't nearly that exciting.

Like the first poster said said, a good mattress and frame cost $$$$ -I bought the Ligne Roset Maly Bed, w/ side tables and fabric choice $6,000.00 add good sheets and comforter $7,000.00... You get what you pay for; I would not trade it for anything. I would never pay 50,000.00 for a bed, that just stupid!

This Hastens store is right near my office so I go past it a lot....i have never seen a single person in it besides the employees....guess chicago cant afford 50k beds (hastens beds start at 10-12k and the 50k model i believe is the most expensive)

I guess you spend what you can on a bed, budgets being what they are.

For $50,000 I could do better than a bed. I could buy a guy with a bed. Much better investment.

I live 2 blocks from a Hastens here in Chicagoland. I walk by it pretty much every day (grocery shopping, train, bank, Walgreens) and just cannot get over how pretty and clean the store looks. It always wants to make me take a nice long nap.

My take on this--I think the only time I would pay $50,000 for a bed (if one day I could even afford that!) would be if I had no job and could sleep all day long. Professional sleepers need professional beds, like as a racecar driver needs a race car :)

I'm with Jen on this one. The average person does not have $7000 to spend on a bed and mattress; sorry, it just isn't so.

Personally, I have a pillow top mattress that cost $250 and I absolutely love it. And my bed was $200 from IKEA.

I'm confident in saying I bet I am just as happy with my set up, as those who spent $7000.
