IKEA PS Workstation

We've been searching for a good-looking, inexpensive wall-mounted desk for a while now, and it's finally here! The IKEA PS Laptop Workstation looks like it might have uses beyond laptop storage...

We could see this workstation in the kitchen holding a cutting board on top and utensils in the bottom compartment, in the bathroom as a stowable vanity with a mirror inside, or in an entryway as a mail sorter.

Available in red or white, the workstation is designed to hold a power strip or cables in the lower compartment and the upper compartment comes with an elastic band to keep the laptop in place when it's being stored. Made from powder-coated steel, it matches the IKEA PS Cabinet.

The PS Laptop Workstation is available for $39.99 at IKEA.

Hmm... not sure. Looks a little locker room chic.

It seems good in theory but my concern is the amount of weight can it support. I worked at IKEA for several years in the office furniture section and my main complaint was that their office pieces were always a little behind the times and it seems this is no exception...it only stores a 17" laptop! The PS metal stuff holds up fairly well though and you can't beat the price especially for comparable items.

What? It's a computer workstation? I'm going to buy one but intend to use it as a liquor cabinet - wall-mounted, storage for glasses, olives, etc. And it has a lock! What could be more perfect? I really think it's a nice item, and though perfect for the laptop, it could easily be used for any number of storage needs that require just a little security. Note to Enamorada: thank you for the review of the PS metal line's quality and durability - it's reassuring.

Brilliant. I used to have an old plantation desk like this that was beautiful... and not $39.99

Although its a fair bit more expensive, I'd be more inclined to purchase the E-Nook for this purpose:

It seems quite a but sturdier and provides more workspace.

It should be a lot better quality for the price. Love the look, not the cost.

enamorada, for your comment above, how big of a laptop do you want to store in it? Do you have a laptop bigger then 17"? If so, it's time to invest in a desktop. I have never understood people's fixations with giant laptops. I think a 17" is quite large, i can't imagine needing one bigger. If you say you do, how often do you actually move it.

I had an older laptop that was a 15.4", big for it's time, and it was a monster, it weighed over 10 pounds, i hardly ever moved it. Only if i was leaving for the weekend, and even then i didn't know if i wanted to take it since it was so cumbersome.

I've seen 20" laptops, but what the heck is the point, now you're just paying a premium for laptop components when you should just get a desktop.

Argghhhh! IKEA Canada, why do you disappoint me again and again!

Also, why is a couch listed as $699 American and $899 Canadian? Not only are our dollars equal now, but a $200 difference seems excessive even before the massive $ valuation shift.

I'd like to offer an alternative - My name is Patricia. I'm with Anthro Corporation. We make the eNook, similar in function. If price is an issue, April is our "no foolin'" sale. There are options in life. Options are always good, especially when they are on sale.
