apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Vintage Apple Canisters from Etsy

OK, this post is admittedly a little silly, but ever since we spotted this apple canister from Urban Outfitters, we've been on the lookout for a vintage version. A 70s-era apple jar would look perfect in the kitchen of our soon-to-be-new apartment, so we turned to the spot for kitschy vintage items: Etsy. We weren't disappointed - the site turned up apple canisters in almost every possible color...

Oh my... the brass and silver plated apples would look delicious in my kitchen. Talk about temptation, sheesh.

Cute! Target has one too, in wood, but I prefer the pear.

Almost every etsy vintage store I've looked at has apples and/or owl decor objects. So yes they're easy to find, and yeah they're way cute.

I am into vintage hens-on-nests (both larger one and salts). My grandma collected them for years, and doesn't that Home: History of an Idea book say most people describe comfort as their grandparents' house?

I actually found the exact same apple canister in the first picture at a thrift store about a week ago. I paid $2.50 for it. It was badly tarnished and looks GREAT now that it has been cleaned up.

I have a brass plated one like in the first picture that I received from an aunt after my grandmother died. It came with a little spoon - I believe it was used as a salt dip.
