Product: Sofa Bed
Designer: BoConcept

We're always on the lookout for good sleeper sofas to recommend to apartment dwellers, so when we had the chance last week to spend three nights trying out BoConcept's Sofa Bed, we were thrilled...

The sofa belonged to a friend in Boston who hosted me and my husband in her one-bedroom apartment. We both slept on the the couch, which folds out into a double bed. It was upholstered in a dark gray fabric, although the site currently lists color options as beige and dark brown.

I first saw this sofa in the store and was intrigued by the streamlined design, which hides two extra fold-out support legs within zippered compartments on the back of the couch. It doesn't take too much force to pop out the legs and fold down the hinged back into a platform-style bed. The design has no springs or bars, just an upholstered foam surface. A standard full sheet set fits snugly over the bed.

My husband and I agreed that it was one of the most comfortable sleeper sofas we've ever used. The modern design is simple and goes with a wide range of decor styles. My friend did mention that the hidden, zippered legs were hard to understand at first, since the sofa came without any instructions. Once you've figured it out, however, it's very easy to use.

PROS
• Under $1,000, it's more affordable than most sleeper sofas.
• It's easy to use and folds out simply and quickly.
• Very versatile: it converts from an armless sofa to a chaise-style couch to a bed.
• The streamlined design goes with lots of different decor styles.
• It offers a comfortable night's sleep.

CONS
• We felt a very slight slope on the side of the bed that folds down.
• The buttons on the tufting are a little uncomfortable.

Failed to mention that it's a knockoff of the Smala sofabed originally designed and manufactured for Ligne Roset...

I've sat on these at the Bo Concept store, and felt they were too firm for a day to day sofa.

I wouldn't call that a knock-off. If Ligne Roset hasn't invented the mechanism and system, then it's not a knowck-off, it may be "inspired by", but there's not much one can do about it.

I don't think they even look alike. One has a splitback, the other not. One has deep, tufted buttons, other hasnt. Legs are somewhat different...

We have an incarnation of this called the Zen Sofa, also from BoConcept, and we love it. We actually love the firmness of it for an everyday sofa and just this week had occasion to sleep on it ourselves as we turned over our bedroom to visiting guests. As for the tufted buttons being uncomfortable, I put an old quilt on the bed before stretching a full fitted sheet over and it is super comfy.

I ordered the Versa and just received it yesterday (right on time too!). And while it was definitely firmer than what I was accustomed to, I don't have a problem with it, so far. And I actually fell asleep on it last night, and it was definitely comfortable, providing you like firm beds, which I do. The tufted buttons weren't a bother to me, personally.

Like deepa said, if you have guests sleeping on it, putting a quilt or heavy blanket before the sheet to cover the buttons would be a good idea.

I have had this couch for a year and LOVE IT. The cushions are firm, but that is why the gods invented throw pillows.
