Nicola Kuperus' Color-Rich Photographs

10-11-07nicolekuperus.jpg

We love Nicola Kuperus' photographs, not just for their strange Hitchcock-esque scenarios, but also for their use of COLOR. Nicola uses bright primary hues as a focal point in her compositions, and there's a lot to be learned about style from her staged photos. (Some of the furniture in the interior shots is really gorgeous.) To see Nicola's work in person, visit Bucket Rider Gallery in the West Loop.

Bucket Rider's website has this to say about her work: "Most of her photographs are monochromatic, cropped in an awkward way, leaving the model’s head out of the frame. By doing this, she leaves two stories in the viewers mind: one with a happy ending and one with an unfortunate ending. It’s up to her audience to decide."

if the name sounds familiar it's because she is part of the band Adult along with her husband. regardless of how much i like their music, i LOVE her photography. very Hitchcockian and moody.

Omigoodness, one could write a short story from the images alone!
