The Gallery: Chris Uphues

7-10-08uphues2.jpgAlmost ten years ago, I randomly met Chris Uphues at a tiny gallery in Chicago. He gave me a homemade button printed with a smiling heart. I saved the button, and now those same doodles are plastered on everything from Fred Flare's offices (shown above) to silos in a field...

Uphues no longer lives in his hometown of Chicago. He's since moved to Brooklyn, where he continues to make art that he describes as "unabashedly friendly." His work has been shown at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, Bucket Rider Gallery, and on the streets of New York, Chicago, and San Francisco.

Silos have so often been over looked as perfect objects for design and decoration. Hooray for this artist's whimsical images!
