The Gallery: Derek Erdman

2007-02-25-derek1.jpg

Derek Erdman is an artist living in Chicago. In the past he sold his work from his home in Pilsen, "Gallery Hamburger". Now you can check out his paintings and illustrations online.

His friend Thomos wrote us and said, "For anyone in Chicago who is looking to adorn their digs with extremely fetching and unique original art on a tight budget, Derek is a goldmine." So without further ado, more from Derek...

I love those buildings!
Each time I'm in Chicago -- it reminds me of the opening to the old Bob Newhart show (the one where he's a psychiatrist - not an innkeeper!)
Can anyone tell me, was the series set in Chicago? I don't remember.

How much for the painting of the buildings? I have a hard time commiting to art... but I could commit to that!

The Marina City painting is $35, Derek's work is super affordable.

He also welcomes commissions, which can be an amazing resource if you're following a certain theme or sticking to a limited color palette. He works quickly and has a weakness for large, greasy breakfasts.

hmmm. i'm thinking about it.
it's painted on ply wood... not mounted to it...yes?

Yes it's painted directly on 1/2" wood, and most of his prices include shipping (inc Marina City).

For very large paintings he uses canvas or sheets treated with housepaint, as they're much easier to hang/transport/ship.
