Cosmic Sleepwalk by Michiko Itatani, 2007, oil on canvas, 96 x 78 inches

Michiko Itatani has been working in Chicago since the 1970s, but her current body of work is our favorite so far. The images from her new series are filled with glowing orbs and walls of books...

Michiko is a well established artist and her large-scale paintings fall within the category of higher-end investment art, but she also has more affordable drawings and works on paper available through Printworks Gallery. Even if you can't afford her original artwork, her paintings are worth checking out for their inspiring sense of space.

It may just be that this style doesn't do anything for me. It has a rather Rorschach test effect. The general shape in the first picture looks rather like the head of the Cloverfield monster.
