Good Question Revisited: Laura II's Emergency Renovation

2008-03-03-bathroomreno.jpg
You may remember this Good Question from about six weeks ago - Laura wrote in saying "Help!" when an emergency bathroom re-do suddenly was in her future. AT readers rallied round with ideas, sources, general sympathy and good luck wishes. Fast forward to March...

...which coincidentally is bathroom month (nice timing!) and we noticed that Laura recently linked to photos of her underway project in the open thread. We thought we'd post them here for everyone to admire the progress so far.

Nice work, Laura!

Here is a quick recap:

Very nice. Love the adorable wall niche with the glass tile border!

Hey look it's my bathroom! How neat! Thanks for the comment on the niche - that's where the medicine cabinet used to be. Since these pics we've finished grouting and sealing. I took my first shower at home in over a month this morning, so happy bathroom month indeed!

I love this bathroom, and especially the light fixture. Could you tell me the source?

I just went through the same exact thing. Unbeknownst to me, the floor joists under the bathroom had rotted and my tub suddenly started sinking into the floor.
I feel Laura's pain. Unfortunately for me, it was our only bathroom. Fortunately, my contractor has almost completed the project in just two weeks. I will find out tonight when I go home if I will be able to take a shower in my new bathroom tomorrow morning.
Maybe I'll get it painted and send the pictures to the contest.

OK. I just went back to the Good Questions post and found the source for the lighting. It looks so much nicer in your bathroom photo than it does on the product Web site. I'm getting it.

I, too, feel Laura's pain. We just finished our master bath which had to be completely torn out down to the joists. It's so nice to have that space back and not all be crowded into the 2nd bathroom.

Petworthdc - I have no complaints about the fixture (yeah, it does look a little odd on the website), and it installed very easily on the existing electrical box. Check ebay for it before you buy, though - we found it for $16 less and free shipping.

Austinjohn and Oceandreamer - it's worth the hassle to have a fresh space that isn't scary/unsafe, isn't it? Loving our new loo.
