Berger Park, located mere steps from Lake Michigan on Chicago's Edgewater neighborhood, was originally built as a private residence in the early 1900s. In the '80s, Chicago Parks District re-habbed the home and added it to their widespread web of public spaces.

Now the building, which hosts classes in everything from Modern Dance to Computer Basics, has suffered from some institutionalizing but the entry way still retains its turn-of-the-century charm. Surrounded by stunning woodwork, the mosaic floor gleams. The patterns, composed of tiny marble tiles, are meticulously designed and make us dream of a era when this type of flooring was standard.
