Our loft need a large expanse of curtains, over 40' worth to be exact. All of the store bought curtain rods and mounting solutions seemed extra pricey and would more than triple what the cost of our fabric hard been. So, we turned our attention to the under appreciated cafe clip. Click through for details...
Cafe clips can be found at most local big box and hardware stores. We picked ours up at K-Mart for $2.54 for a pack of 14. All they require is a simple pinch to open and their claw holds tight to whatever fabric you put between it. At first we were worried that they would be too shiny, but once all was said and done, they look ultra modern and chic! (Stay tuned for a full tutorial on Monday!)
Had we used traditional curtain rods our cost for hanging 40+ feet worth of fabric would have been in the hundreds of dollars. Knowing we could accomplish the same look for less feels great!
I've often used cafe clips (thanks, Mom) for curtains teamed with tension curtain rods. I picked up some great dish towels at ikea and voila...had great curtains with zero sewing.

how did you hang them?

What a cool idea. The only curtain we have is the shower curtain, which is hung using those stainless steel bead chain thingies that you get at any hardware store for real cheap.

I've not had any luck with cafe clips. Any fabric that is not superlight eventually falls out. I instead use rings and drapery hooks. A bit more pricy, but much, much better.

Oooh, interesting! I'm looking forward to see what you used to hang them.

The timing of this post is funny, because I plan on using those clips for a large curtain on our sun porch soon (and from the picture above, I'm guessing we're using the same wire too!).
P.S. Those cafe clips are great for organizing and storing your scarves. http://vintageliving.wordpress.com/2008/12/10/wrinkle-free-scarves/

I've resorted to spray painting them in the past with great success.
