It's all in the details. We attended the 2007 Dream Home preview (it officially opens 9/28) this morning and heard from each of the designers about their rooms. Outside-the-box ideas and not yet released products abound - for this client-less project, the designers can focus on showcasing the new. Here are our picks for the top ten trends, ideas and details as witnessed at this years Dream Home:
Chandeliers Hung Low: instead of table lamps, chandeliers suspended to just a foot or two over the side tables at the sofa or bedsideNo Fear of Metallics: subtly metallic leather upholstery, totally glitzy threads running through wallpaper, lurex and sequins woven into upholstery Gold is the New Silver: lots of gold hardware and pulls, gilt artwork, matte gold flatware and faucets
The list continues below the jump...
Textured Walls: river rock on the wall, many shades of linen wall coverings and a full room of ceiling to floor draperyDeep, Dark, Soft Colors: think nighttime; golds, dark blues, grays, browns and blacks in subtly, low-lit roomsOutdoor Furniture Moves In: taking textural pieces designed for outdoors and re-doing using soft fabric and upholstery for use indoorsEntertaining in the "Lounge": The bath as lounge; with a cocktail tray, video screens and hangover remedies artfully displayedThe End of the "Professional" Kitchen: hiding the appliances, goodbye stainless steel, hello wood and goldThe Media Room Sans Screen: the tv-less tv room uses a projector and Goo Paint on the wall for a seamless, screenless viewing setupLoving the Shiny!: gorgeous white porcelain tiles as a bed backdrop, high gloss painted walls to reflect light, mirrored backdrops to art, mirrored furniture, high gloss lacquered finishes everywhere
