I have a very old-fashioned, girly room (funny, as I am not really either), and I think only an analog clock would look okay. The ticking drives me nuts, though. Right now I've got my grandpa's old digital, and I shove it under the bed during the day. This works for me.

Does anyone else hate alarm clocks on tables as much as I do?

I love the Now & Zen digital alarm clock. It's a simple wooden box. The smaller "B tone" version is only 7 1/2 inches long. You can leave the box open if you want to see the clock face, or you can close the top to disguise it. I got mine as a gift about a month ago and I love it. The alarm is a chime (not a digital recording of a chime, a real chime) and it wakes me up more pleasantly than any other alarm I've used. I also love that the clock face isn't lit up (unless you turn that feature on). I don't like the green glow of most digital clocks. I used to slide my clock under the bed at night so the glowing wouldn't wake me up.

The best alarm clock I've ever had is the one I have now - it was on sale for $5 at Old Navy (of all places), and is a small black cube that has the time, date and temperature. It doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, but it's small and unassuming on my nightstand, and has lasted three years so far. It's the only thing I've bought from Old Navy that's had any longevity.

I've been needing a new alarm clock for about a year now. Since mine died, I've been using my cell phone, which is fine unless it dies over night.

I love the retro Big Bens, but like CaseyB I cannot stand any ticking at all. Has anyone tried these? Can you tell me if the ticking is audible?

(Hey this is my first post here! Been lurking a while. Love the site, even if I can't afford the vast majority of stuff here, I get lots of great ideas.)

My schedule is different almost every day of the week, so I bought a Neverlate alarm clock with a different alarm setting for every day of the week. I have to say I love it. It's so nice to not have to think about turning it on or whether it's set for the right time. It's more functional than it is pretty, but I've definitely seen worse. It looks like they're coming out with an all digital, slightly better looking model this summer.

mi,jo, I have a 1931-era style 3 Baby Ben (repro) and the ticking isn't very loud. When I went looking for a new clock, I brought batteries along with me to give the clocks a "test drive". The alarm has three escalating levels when it goes off--"Please get up", "Get up now", and "GET UP GET UP GET UP GET UP GET UP". Happy shopping. :)

I have the "Big Ben" reproduction from LL Bean (in pastel orange). It's the first analog bedside clock I've had since I was about twelve! I decided to finally move beyond the little digital clock-radio box, and I love the way the Big Ben looks. The ticking is a little annoying, but you get used to it. No snooze button, though!
