I'm so glad to see a sensible layout like this. In the December issue of Domino (a magazine I normally adore), there was a cocktail party featured where the hostess spent a cool grand on invites/decor (including monogrammed matches, of all things) . . . and then served up Popeyes chicken and white castle burgers for dinner. Yuck.

Is it that people in NYC don't eat?

Not defending the choices, but it's actually POP burgers ("gourmet" burgers as it were) not white castle -

Oh, you're right. Pop burgers they were.

Still. I'd rather put my money toward feeding my guests well then blowing it to impress them with personalized invites, napkins and match books . . .

    And the red cupcakes? Hideous.

I did, however, fall in love with the tree in that piece. White with big purplish-black ornaments. Love.

Thanks for the budget suggestions! Always good when we are saving our pennies for presents!

    Whitney-

Your first posting crached me up.

It's insane how these magazines work. My favorite thing in the world would be to see a magazine that features everything in three price tears. HIGH, MED & LOW. You see it on HGTV all the time. Would love to see it be a normal practice in magazines.

As for NY'ers eating habits, we do love bad food. Just that we have far too many gyms per square block to have any excuse not to excercise before, during or after work.

Oh, my pet peeve which is becoming more prevalent by the day.

There is no such thing as AN invite

To invite is a verb - "I would like to invite you to my birthday party."

The noun for the concrete thing you send in the post is INVITATION - "Here is an invitation to my birthday party."

Why have so many people forgotten the word invitation???
