Top Ten: Timers

2006-05-09-timers.jpgOur secret weapon for getting cleaning done: set a timer. Seriously, if we set a timer for say, 15 minutes to clean the kitchen floor, done! Then we'll reset for 10 minutes to reorganize a drawer, once again, finished in a flash. Sometimes we'll do the long form, set it for 45 minutes and knock out a big job.

It's a bit magical - the time flies, the chores get finished. Our theory for why it works so well: we stay focused on the job at hand because we know there is an end point coming up.

All we really know is that it works and we don't question good things...that said, this weeks top ten: timers.

Above: Michael Graves for Alessi for $29.50.
Right: Stainless steel Zack for $50.
The rest of the list:

And, of course, the one on your stove!

i have the eva solo timer, i also bought it as a house-warming gift for a friend. we absolutely LOVE it! however, i've yet to set a timer to my house-work...i might try that with the hubby and see if it spurs him into usefulness.

I have a budget option....I turn off the power to my toaster oven, and use the bake timer. This has the added advantage of eliminating a gagdet.

I have a few Polder digital timers lying around. They're easy to set with individual digit buttons, they're loud, and you can have a countdown timer and stopwatch running at the same time (very useful if you want to check something at periodic intervals, but also know how long it's been going total).
